Congratulations
Such a phenomenal achievement and a testament to putting patients first.
September always been an auspicious month for us.
On September 1, 1991, Dr. Mohan’s Diabetes Specialities Centre (DMDSC) then called M.V. Diabetes Specialities Centre was started in a humble way in a few rented rooms in rented premises at Royapettah High Road, Chennai.
The growth of DMDSC was phenomenal, and within 2 years on September 1, 1993, we had to rent another premises to start our Inpatient Division at Ambal’s Hospital, Lloyds Road. Very soon, the need for building our own hospital became obvious. With the blessings of Bhagwan Sri Sathya Sai Baba, my wife Rema and I were able to acquire the land where our present headquarters is located at Conran Smith Road, Gopalapuram, in Sept 1994.
On September 1, 1996, the Madras Diabetes Research Foundation (MDRF) was also started, in a humble way in one room within the hospital with one Scientist.
On Sept 1st 1997, we inaugurated the new hospital of DMDSC at Gopalapuram, which continues to be our headquarters even today.
Today, as we look back, we are humbled that what started as a small clinic 34 years ago has now grown to become the largest chain of diabetes centres with presence in 8 states and 32 cities across India with over 1200 staff and still counting….
Meanwhile, MDRF, which began in one room, has expanded to four separate campuses, including a 6.5-acre, 35,000 sq. ft. campus at Siruseri perhaps the largest standalone diabetes research centre in the world with over 20 scientists and over 200 staff….
We owe all our success to the vision of my late wife, Dr. Rema Mohan, who continues to bless us from above, and to the Blessings of my Guru and Master, Bhagwan Sri Sathya Sai Baba. Needless to say, the loyalty and support of the extended family comprising our staff across our group of institutions has been pivotal in this journey. Today, under the able leadership of Dr. Anjana (Managing Director, and my daughter), Dr. Ranjit Unnikrishnan (Vice Chairman, and my son-in-law), and our dedicated team, our institutions continue to grow and flourish with all your support and good wishes.
We are deeply indebted to our patients, well-wishers, professional colleagues, and the many organisations and universities both in India and abroad for their collaborations and support in this incredible journey of 34 years.
Finally, I invite all those attending the EASD conference at Vienna to attend the First Global Diabetes Impact Award Lecture which will be delivered by me on September 19, 2025 in the Paris Hall at the EASD.
BIG THANK YOU TO ALL OF YOU 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻

The best diet in world of #T2Diabetes - at a population level is the one that is:
Tolerable
Sustainable
Affordable
Whether it’s Low-Carb; Low-Cal or Mediterranean?
If as a proponent-you can tick that trio?
Bingo
A fact policymakers need to understand too

“What has been the biggest change in #T1D care in your time with @NHSEngland?”
There are people now with #T1Diabetes who will have never known what it is to prick their fingers on a regular basis
Or stab themselves with a needle every day to inject insulin
That? Is change 💙
Congratulations Johan and Mohamed - both super well deserved.

People developing #T2D at young ages, lose ~15-20 years of lifespan ☹️ We highlight emerging evidence, major research gaps and emphasise the need for population-level prevention and precision care, both necessary to reverse this concerning trend.
The articles are free to access until mid-August, please share widely (@ImperialMDR @ImperialMed @ImperialAHSC @ImperialBRC)!

So- what should #Diabetes priorities be for @DHSCgovuk @wesstreeting -in the next few years?
And how does @NHSGIRFT @NHSDiabetesProg all fit in together?
A personal opinion- via @bmj_latest
(NB: I am not involved in setting priorities anymore for NHS England 😊 )
