If Andy Burnham genuinely was planning a 2028 or 2029 election this is the Budget where all the tough decisions would have bene taken. Then he would use subsequent Budgets to say "you felt the pain, well here's the gain". Instead all the tough decisions were deferred.

Please do not ask a bookworm if they are going to finish the books they have before buying more. It is very offensive in our culture.

Things are moving so fast that everyone seems to have completely missed how insane it is that AI companies have been allowed to unleash agentic AI products with no regulatory guidelines.
SCOOP: Major U.S. banks are detecting unauthorized third-party AI agents inside customer accounts, including some attempting to take actions that appear to be independent of user instructions, sources told Axios. The findings have alarmed banking executives, who are racing to restrict access to their systems as AI moves at a velocity faster than financial institutions can respond, multiple industry and bank executives told Axios. Several banks are now preparing for worst-case and even “day after” scenarios, including how to rapidly secure or restore customer accounts if things go wrong, the people said. Several bank executives told Axios they're struggling to distinguish between human users and AI agents. One executive said banks also struggle to determine whether agents are authorized by customers or potentially operating without their permission, more akin to rogue agent behavior. SCOOP: OpenAI, Anthropic and security researchers are investigating tens of thousands of incidents - not dozens - in which their frontier models took steps that outside evaluators would consider problematic, sources told Axios. The sheer volume of incidents found in our reporting indicate that the problem is orders of magnitude more complex than what is currently publicly known and disclosed. The findings also raise questions about what level of control anyone working on AI development can expect to have over their own technology, and whether these kinds of incidents are becoming synonymous with frontier deployment. The mere suggestion of rent controls by @AyoCaesar causes audible gasps and nervous laughter on the #bbcqt panel. 100% guaranteed that not a single one of the panelists is a renter and has experienced the insecurity and extraction that renters do at the hands of private landlords

The RNLI issue might be the bleakest of UK issues. A LIFEBOAT charity. Doctors don’t check whether they approve of you before treating you. Firefighters don’t ask whether you deserve saving. The minute emergency help becomes conditional, we are in very VERY dark territory.

OK, can we just clear this one up. If you say "You can't be English if you're not white" that's racist. It's the literal definition of racism. You can't justify it. You can't intellectualise it with rubbish about Anglo Saxons and "what if I was in Japan". It's racist. That's it.

Today’s action revoking access for journalists from CNN, POLITICO, and MSNOW violates the First Amendment. The implications extend beyond these organizations: a standard used to exclude one news outlet because of its coverage could be applied to any outlet in the future. The American people, through a free and independent press, must be able to scrutinize those elected to power, regardless of whether government officials view it favorably.  That’s why courts have repeatedly held that once the White House provides access to journalists, it cannot deny that access arbitrarily or based on the content of their reporting. The WHCA calls on the administration to immediately restore our colleagues' access. - Jacqui Heinrich, WHCA President
