After Isaias made landfall Friday night, it marked the 8th hurricane to make landfall on the Gulf coast of Florida in 10 years. 6 of those hurricanes were at major hurricane strength when hitting Florida.

#Isaias continues to strengthen. Observations from scientists onboard an Air Force Hurricane Hunter aircraft indicate the central pressure continues to fall and maximum winds are now near 85 mph. A period of rapid intensification is possible before vertical wind shear increases significantly before landfall.

Pretty neat! Almost all of the US is seeing sunshine today except Florida (for the most part). ☀️

The Nor’easter will weaken tonight, easing beach conditions and coastal flooding, though locally heavy rain will continue in parts of the Mid-Atlantic and New England into Monday.

If no hurricanes form in the Atlantic Basin by tomorrow morning, it'd be the first time in 112 YEARS that we've had no hurricanes in the Atlantic Ocean through September 21st.

EXTREMELY RARE PIEBALD SHARK SIGHTED OFF ANNA MARIA ISLAND!
Piebaldism is caused by a genetic condition affecting melanin distribution, resulting in striking patchy, unpigmented white areas alongside normal pigmentation. Reaching adulthood with this condition is exceptionally rare because the lack of natural countershading makes young sharks easy targets for predators.

Tropical Storm #Bertha.
Just a moment ago.
She is big.
Just, not organized…
..Dealing with a lot right now.

Gulf water temperatures are plenty warm enough to support intensification, but for now, dry air and some shear are preventing TD #2 from rapidly intensifying.
We do think the depression will become Tropical Storm Bertha soon. The big question is, how long will the storm stay over water to allow for further development and intensification? For now, we think the storm should be near or over land by Wednesday, but we will be watching closely. Tropical Storm Watches are up for portions of the Florida Panhandle to the Alabama, Mississippi line. Minimal, if any impacts for our area, in fact, as the storm moves away we will see lower rain chances and higher temperatures. #Florida #Skytower

Scientists say the lava fountain gushing out of Hawaii’s Kilauea volcano reached about 1,000 feet high at its peak this weekend. It flowed non-stop for seven hours.

Another aftershock in the Gulf, now the third in the past week. Nearly 5.0 in magnitude. If your pets acted strange for a minute this afternoon, they can notice and "hear" these earthquake waves going by. No tsunami risk. Several aftershocks after a big earthquake are common.

Breaking: El Niño begins!
NOAA has officially declared the start of El Niño today. After months of anticipation, the criteria has been met with East Pacific Ocean Temps rising at a record pace. The models have been consistently advertising a “historic” event, very possibly the strongest on record by fall. #ElNino
