Imagine Israel’s election: candidates running to the right of Netanyahu, today’s Hitler.

One of the tragedies of @Makerere is that this guy, @MurangiraGord, supposedly the PA of @ProfNawangwe does the actual running of the University with a brain half the size of a mango seed!
Gordon got the job through NEPOTISM, of course - thanks to a “connected brother”. In many serious places, his qualifications, let alone character, wouldn't run a car washing bay. Now he runs Uganda’s oldest & most prestigious university - what is supposed to be our shining light!
His favourite part of the job is going around issuing threats to students and non-teaching staff, expelling students for their political views, and ordering lecturers on what they can, and can't research! All the time walking around with a pistol like an excited toddler does with a candy! In some of his tweets here, he self-congratulates for “getting opposition out of Makerere” & promises to do even more for Museveni and his family.
Of course, he is part of that group of men at Makerere whose wives are “Pentecostal Born Against Christians” who organise prayers to thank God - as their evil husbands expel students for hosting online because they’re NUP!
Also, Gordon goes a long way in ensuring his photo is hard to find online, but yeah, this is him.

If I was President, and you’re lucky I will never become one, I would never allow any of your lies told about my motherland. I would send you and your ilk for retooling (mind education). Learn to love your country, honour your leaders, don’t host little liars!!

Guys, really? The state & gov't are different in 2026 Uganda where the Chief Justice takes oath of office at Museveni's private farm & his son decides the speaker & his deputy?!
Cut the crap! The gov't is the state, & there's a collective term for these two: KAGUTA FAMILY!

I hope these bloody English-speaking twitter "elites" know that nobody is denying them the right to choose their employers. We are simply reserving the right to remember what they were hired to make us forget.

.@Joshua_lawel is such a good writer👌🏽👌🏽 meanwhile, when I saw all the tweets and ad hominem response to his article I had thought he attacked @qataharraymond for the choice he made. I see that he, in fact defends his right to make a choice, to advance his career and personal interests and understands why many people in the circumstances we find ourselves in end up making such choices. Why exactly has this article rubbed some people the wrong way? Anyway, perhaps I am misinformed about this subject since, like I was telling @YusufSerunkuma yesterday, I have not yet watched his podcast with Raymond.
Goodbye Raymond, but do not gaslight us
Do not gaslight us into believing that your decision to join government is simply a neutral professional move, or that we should celebrate it as an act of national service. Serving the state is not, by itself, honourable. The nature of the state you serve matters.
Those who chose to serve apartheid South Africa could, by strict definition, be called public servants. Officials who used their knowledge, skills and positions to sustain brutal colonial systems in places like Congo could as well be said to be people who were simply doing their jobs. They were collaborators.
They became active participants in systems of oppression. Their education and professional abilities did not make their service neutral. In some cases, those very abilities made the system more effective.

There is a clique of people who have been acting anti regime but only waiting for that opportunity to secure a livelihood through government. What kind of transition are these people talking about?

The Silencing of a Nation
Abductions and torture in Uganda
"...The struggle before us, therefore, is not merely
political; it is moral. It demands that Ugandans reject
fear, defend one another, insist on accountability, and
refuse to normalise brutality. The rope of tyranny is
not severed by becoming what the tyrant is, but by
denying him the obedience, silence, and legitimacy
upon which his power depends. And when that day
comes, it will not simply mark the end of a regime—it
will mark the beginning of a nation that remembers,
mourns, and resolves never again to permit such barbarism."

If this project was truly under the jurisdiction of the Ministry of Works and Transport, why is this letter from H.E. @KagutaMuseveni addressed directly to you and only copied to the Minister of Works and Transport? That contradiction cannot be ignored.
The fact that this ambiguous letter was addressed to you strongly suggests that it was cleared through your office, and then presented to the President to sign with directive for you and your Ministry to implement. If that is the case, whoever drafted it produced an exceptionally poor and misleading document, apparently intended to intimidate and overawe other government agencies rather than provide lawful and technically sound guidance.
More fundamentally, how does a project that you say was officially launched at @MoWT_Uganda in 2019 suddenly require Presidential directives in July 2022 for its implementation? If it was already a Ministry of Works Project, what exactly was the President being asked to direct three years later?
And if those directives were necessary, were they not directed at your own Ministry to implement? Why then was the letter framed in a manner that sought to impose obligations on other government institutions instead?
These are not minor inconsistencies. They go to the heart of the credibility, origin, intent, and legal basis of the entire @itmsug system. In my own experience after serving for more than 26 years in government, a lot of genuine Security Initiatives and programmes/projects are implemented without a hitch and public uproar. Why is this one problematic? Because National Security is being used as a disguise to openly rob motor vehicle and motorcycle owners and Traders.

Fake intel: Two state spies plead guilty to staging deadly Munyonyo, Kalerwe bombs
The duo was convicted on Monday by the court, chaired by Brig Richard Tukacungurwa, after admitting the prosecution's facts detailing how the two operations were planned and executed.
Lyavaala and Walusansa were working as state informers on activities of the Allied Democratic Forces (ADF) at the time.
However, the prosecution, led by Lt Regina Nanzala, told the court that, contrary to the intelligence they were passing to security agencies, the two were involved in facilitating the operations that resulted in the deaths of two people – Sumaya Byaruhanga at Munyonyo on June 3, 2025, and Azatu Sawiya at Kalerwe Market on June 21, 2025.
Sumaya was made to carry a bag containing a bomb, which was detonated when she reached near Kagwa Bridge, close to Munyonyo Catholic Shrine. She died while Sawiya was shot dead at Kalerwe on false allegations of carrying a bomb.

Mr. Ssentanda (second state witness after the first one said the crime scene was set up by the Kenyan police) also informed court that audio of some audio visual recordings wasn’t matching the video content which was largely indistinct. The recordings from different meetings have been played in court for Mr. Ssentanda to relate with his transcription report, however Mr. Ssentanda could not relate some parts of the recordings to his report and he explains that there are no time stamps and that many parts of the recordings are marked as indistinct.
The circus case against Kizza Besigye continues while he lies ill in a military facility.
Court Update 📍
Court is in session for the trial of @kizzabesigye1 and his co-accused. Prosecution today presented their second Witness Mr. Ssentanda Medard Erisa a language expert and Coordinator of the Center for language and communication services at Makerere University. Mr. Ssentanda while giving his testimony before court informed it that he transcribed 5 meetings. 3 Geneva meetings, 1 from Athens and 1 from Nairobi. He further informed court that he listened to the recordings while putting the same in writing while maintaining the order of the speakers in their respective turns.
Mr. Ssentanda also informed court that audibility of some audio visual recordings were not matching the video content which were largely indistinct. The recordings from different meetings have been played in court for Mr. Ssentanda to relate with his transcription report, however Mr. Ssentanda could not relate some parts of the recordings to his report and he explains that there are no time stamps and that many parts of the recordings are marked as indistinct. The second Prosecution witness also told court that he was not sure who the voices in some of the videos belonged to because he could only hear voices and not see their faces.
Court has been adjourned to 2:40pm to allow I.T technicians fix their gadgets after proceedings were halted due to failure of the recordings to play in court.

Thank you, we've been here long enough to know what the problem is, anything my friend @mwineedgar is trying to support is classic pussyfooting. That BS of intelligent or well-intentioned 'contributions' is just hogwash. The system has repeatedly demonstrated an ability to absorb, neutralise, compromise, and repurpose even your most 'intelligent people'. I would accept feeling pity for him, that's more reasonable.

I admire the optimism, but i will remain hesitant to "support" another person to perform well inside the machinery, for now let me stick with those supporting people capable of asking whether the machinery itself should continue operating the way it does.

I will deal with that struggle. I will, for now support Raymond’s decision to offer himself to serve his country in that capacity. I will encourage him to remain true to himself and make a contribution that he can, hopefully more than the Kabandas

It may be unkind to some fine individuals in public and political service, but it is fairly accurate to describe the Ugandan government as a kakistocracy.
The level of corruption, the anti-intellectualism, and the quality of our political class are dizzying. We may have to restore a meritocracy-based approach to managing our politics and public service.

Banks require a debt-to-income ratio that leaves room for basic survival, meaning anyone earning an entry-level wage is automatically disqualified from the credit market. They cannot borrow enough to build, & they cannot save fast enough to beat inflation& rising land prices.
