“Liar liar pants on fire” Where are the glasses? #UKPolitics #Labour
Speaking with Anne McElvoy, Housing Secretary Angela Rayner says Labour’s promise at the last general election to build 1.5 million new homes was “always a stretch target”

….and you wonder why Tuchel has doubts about Palmer… Not just this game, but the last few games #palmer #CHETOT
I don't think there's anyone happier for Spurs right now than Gary Neville.

This is a govt minister who is ‘an economist’ (turned off replies) ANY cost impacts prices AND investments If you charge windfall taxes, companies loose confidence in your country to NOT do that so they de-invest 🤷 #ukpolitics
Nope, that’s not how taxes and price works. The price is determined by demand and supply. Companies charge the highest price they can given demand. A tax levied on *profits* does not affect a company’s cost ie supply. Taxes on *windfall* profits (like oil and gas) are the most efficient kind of tax there is.
Readers added context they thought people might want to know
Corporate profit taxes do not directly shift marginal costs but empirical studies show partial pass-through into higher consumer prices. Windfall taxes on oil and gas have deterred investment and production in practice despite theoretical efficiency on rents. dadun.unav.edu/server/api/cor… ecb.europa.eu/pub/pdf/scpwps… taxfoundation.org/blog/big-oil-p… scottishfinancialreview.com/2025/09/03/win…

Note: The Premier Leaves is not a court of law; it’s a “private organisation members sign up to”. It’s rulings can’t go to CAS It has to follow proper contract law, but not much else Its members set the rules It’s a “private arbitration system” #mancity

Bus fares 😂…….. 30yr gilts have gone above 6% and this is your reply #ukpolitics
Replying to @JamesMelville
I know this isn’t a silver bullet. It might help some people find cheaper fuel, but it doesn’t mean that’s all we’re doing to help people with the cost of living. We’re cutting VAT on electricity bills. Capping bus fares at £2 in England. Giving disabled people 24/7 free bus travel. Making it easier to cancel subscriptions. Cutting business rates for pubs, clubs and music venues. Stopping schools from demanding endless expensive branded uniforms. Ensuring if your train is cancelled, you can use your ticket on other operators free of charge. Fuel duty is staying frozen to the end of the year. Yes, on their own, I accept that these things don’t seem like much when people’s lives have gotten harder. There’s a lot still to do. But I won’t shy away from the big issues either. It’s why I made announcements last week on more public control of water, energy, and housing, to make the basics better for people long-term. Together, these changes add up, and no matter how small it may seem, I will pull every single lever I can to help people, whenever I can.

Great to see @RewildingB with a big, powerful stall at #GreenPartyConference. We have to celebrate all of our #biodiversity, large and charismatic and humble and foundational

I genuinely think this is a parody account No matter how many times the law is explained to this ‘writer’ he is adamant that apples are pears It’s brilliant @NeilClark66 @NJM71 #ukpensions
Someone so desperate to make the case they put a Community Note on overnight. Pathetic. But it makes no difference how the state pension is ‘officially classified’ it is a contributory pension scheme (just like a private one, only state) which may well be accounted for in ‘welfare spending’ but isn’t strictly ‘welfare’. As I said calling it ‘welfare’ makes it easier to cut it or take it away from us.

At least Liz enables direct replies. I don’t agree with her, but she at least isn’t afraid of words It says much about the person; you know the multi millionaire one who doesn’t like the world to address her by her title 😂

Tonight on Question Time, I debated Suella Braverman on what it means to be English. I think there’s one word for her position

Not really a “scoop” when it’s clear that this journalist is just a preferred outlet for Govt policy dissemination
💥Andy Burnham confirms my scoop this morning that he will push ahead with plans for electoral reform - kicking off a process that could eventually lead to ditching the first-past-the-post system in favour of proportional representation. The PM, a long standing supporter of electoral reform, says he wants a system in which “everyone’s views count and everyone’s vote matters”. theguardian.com/politics/202…

Worry no more. Counter-terror police say the 5 men arrested for allegedly plotting a terror attack at RAF Fairford are all UK nationals living in London.

So as normal he says a lot but actually says nothing No real timetable No costing He says £18B is too high, so to do so means he knows what he’s offering and its cost. He doesn’t Disingenuous…again #ukpolitics
A big moment this morning - PM doesn’t just say he wants to fix social care - says free like the NHS, paid for by everyone - and vows to put it on the ballot at the next election Bound to restart chatter about whether if it’s urgent … can he really wait till 2029

Women and girls should be able to live their lives free from violence and abuse. But when these crimes happen, we need a justice system that properly supports victims. So we’re making changes.
