Monica and Ximena Martinez are inspiring examples of our mission in action. Through the sister’s lifelong participation in the Framingham Heart Study, alongside our former @American_Heart president and study lead, @dmljmd, they have been essential in helping shape the longest-running and most significant cardiovascular research project of its kind.
I had the privilege of sharing Monica and Ximena’s relentless journey on my @thrive blog: spr.ly/6016B6aGao
The participants of the #FraminghamHeartStudy are the most dedicated people on the planet! So grateful for them. And you should be too. They continue to change the world and save countless lives.
These sisters spent a frigid night in a rental car – all for a landmark heart study

Published today, 2026 Dietary Guidance to Improve Cardiovascular Health: A Scientific Statement from the American Heart Association.
This statement:
➡️ Reinforces the importance of focusing on heart-healthy dietary patterns, rather than on single foods or nutrients.
➡️ Highlights the importance of adopting heart-healthy eating habits early in life and maintaining them across the life course.
➡️ Organizes the guidance into nine features to facilitate adoption of a dietary pattern that support cardiovascular health.
➡️ Recognizes the additional benefits that come with adoption of a heart-healthy dietary pattern beyond CVD.

Key updates to this guideline include:
➡️ The use of the American Heart Association PREVENT-ASCVD equations to guide primary-prevention and lipid-lowering therapy decisions.
➡️ Testing Lp(a) at least once in a lifetime and selective apolipoprotein B measurement to improve risk assessment and guide treatment
➡️ The return of LDL-C and non-high-density lipoprotein cholesterol treatment goals (with lower targets for higher-risk groups)
➡️ Expanded use of coronary artery calcium scoring to reclassify risk[ME1.1]

Last week, I joined inspiring early career professionals to discuss crucial topics like turning scientific research into better health outcomes and advocating for all those touched by heart disease and stroke. Thank you for this opportunity @chanders4 @dmljmd @American_Heart
Terrific figures in your paper!
And very thoughtful discussion
Figures reinforce prior observations that most of the differential overestimation is happening above the 7.5% threshold and in older patients
So… does it matter as much?
Replying to @JamesADiao
@JamesADiao @venkmurthy @kardiologykazi very interesting work.
But… the key words in your thread are “potential” and “could,” so would be very careful not to get people too worried about your results. Thresholds can certainly change - see our viewpoint below.
What an incredible, effective, insightful, savvy, and kind leader
@American_Heart is truly blessed!
Amazing @NancyatHeart ! Honored to volunteer for @American_Heart and so inspired by your leadership ! ❤️❤️
