"We took over and we just kind of fucking botched it. The Democrats didn’t create some bullshit. We had a generational opportunity and we basically squandered it. Look at the coalition we had in 2024. Those people might not ever vote again in their lives.” newyorker.com/news/the-polit…

Today, I sent a letter putting New Jersey’s port and terminal operators on notice: importing Russian diesel violates federal law and could carry serious civil and criminal consequences. New Jersey will not stand by while Donald Trump supports Vladimir Putin at the expense of Americans. Instead of lowering costs, these imports help finance Putin’s war against Ukraine and a campaign of violence and terror that endangers our servicemembers abroad. As a Navy veteran, I cannot let that stand unchallenged. Our ports must not be complicit.

If GOP legislators had a fraction of this—standing up to Trump, for the law and the country—the United States and the world would be in a much better place. Instead, they rubber-stamped the most venal, autocratic, dictator-loving presidency in US history and voters shouldn’t forget it.

They were very interested in Johnny Garcia's antisemitic primary opponent, but after he beat her he's received zero coverage. Fellow DMFI-endorsed South Texas challenged Bobby Pulido has never been mentioned.

It's fine to not be interested in the fate of moderate Dems, but the Free Press *represents itself* as extremely interested in this question — but doesn't actually take an interest in it except to exaggerate the clout of the far left and encourage people to become Republicans.

The thing about this is that the Free Press never actually does anything to praise pro-Israel Democrats — there's no positive coverage of Jared Moskowitz for example — the Michigan outcome where they lose primaries and switch parties is the whole goal of the enterprise.

"In two years, I've never seen a country go down so far so fast." I asked unhappy Trump 2024 voters whether their 2026 votes were pro-Democrat or just anti-Republican… Almost all said they cast an anti-Republican vote. I spoke more with @JohnBerman on this Election Day.

"We love you but we will shoot you in the face to obtain salvation." And of course he's not just talking about killing Ukrainian soldiers. Hardly a day doesn't go by in which Russian camera-equipped drones don't hunt down and chase ordinary Ukrainian civilians — including women and the elderly — and then execute them.
Russian ultranationalist philosopher Alexander Dugin, often called “Putin’s brain,” addresses Ukrainians: “We love you, we respect you. And even if we are forced to kill you, we do it by shooting our own brothers and sisters in the heart, in the face, in the head. It’s very difficult, but we are doing it for some very important purpose… This goal exceeds all our formally declared objectives. We do this in the name of salvation, in the name of transformation.”

We at AIFP are spooked by this information. IF (big IF) Anthropic really is imminently about to meet the RSP threshold of 2x acceleration over baseline, then it seems timelines to full RSI and superintelligence may be very short indeed. For example if we naively optimize the AIFM parameters to achieve 2x acceleration over baseline progress in Jan 2027, we get superintelligence sooner than depicted in AI 2027. We are thinking harder and longer about this now and will hopefully have a lengthier update on our thinking to share in the next week.
Anthropic updated its S1 this morning. Notable additions re automated AI R&D and human oversight of it: "[...] our internal estimates and our expectations regarding future models, rather than our current models, indicate that we may imminently meet our Responsible Scaling Policy’s definition of 'dramatically accelerated progress attributable to AI.' We have not designated any of our current models as exceeding this threshold, and we continue to assess the underlying data. We are also evaluating the implications of meeting the AI research and development capability threshold and will release further reports in the future as we set forth in our Responsible Scaling Policy." "We are also considering additional measures, including updates to our Responsible Scaling Policy, to require human review and approval of certain decisions in our research and development processes as our models perform an increasing share of that work." "We believe our investments in safety techniques will enable us to manage these risks and responsibly realize substantially more leverage from Claude than we do today in developing AI models. However, we do not anticipate being able to safely use Claude to fully autonomously design and build successive generations of frontier models without meaningful human supervision or understanding, if and when that becomes technically possible. Accordingly, we are considering updates to our Responsible Scaling Policy to keep humans in control of frontier model development at Anthropic." sec.gov/Archives/edgar/data/…

Glad we didn't elect a socialist.
Today, the Trump administration announced its 41st equity stake in a private US company (this time: the drone-maker Neros). Also, be sure to get out and vote today to stop socialism in America.

Good video. Complaining about AI companies doing bad things (even just on twitter) really works! You don't even necessarily need to have lots of followers to do it (though of course that helps) - the algorithm often helps surface high effort posts. Many more people should do this - including possibly you, the person reading this! Read primary sources that companies put out and complain about them if you think they are bad! Employees at the companies will read them (in rare cases, sometimes the CEOs of the company will read them!). I think there are only about a dozen or so accounts on this platform who frequently post about AI company misdeeds, but there is a far greater quantity of shenanigans sitting in public view yet to be noticed. We need laws and many forms of stronger deterrence than just public shame, but public criticism really can make a difference! The criticism is also particularly effective when its grounded in details that people who work at the companies may not be aware of (e.g. specific language in draft legislation or a system card or a quote from a company spokesman to press or the actions of a companies affiliated political arm etc.) and tries to recognize that AI companies are not necessarily monoliths acting with one single intent.
Laying into AI companies is more effective than you might think. Gag clauses torn up. ~$75bn moved to the OpenAI Foundation. OpenAI flipped on SB315. Brockman quit his SuperPAC. Anthropic backpedalled on its federal bill. Reporters, lawyers, ex-staff, and shitposters on X got it done – with huge help from staff speaking up internally. This month Anthropic, OpenAI and GDM gave us a counterproductive AI bill, dubious firings and fresh clauses gagging staff. If you work at one of these companies: it's time to post in #general (metaphorically or maybe literally). If you don't: consider becoming a sophisticated and strategic pain in the ass for these companies when they do bad things. It’s a neglected career and probably high impact, especially for people who really get what's going on. I explain some options: 00:00 We need a stronger effort to push AI companies to do better 01:14 Anthropic: who gets to pull the brake? 07:14 OpenAI fires three safety researchers 12:44 Google DeepMind’s lifelong gag clause 5:39 Credit where it’s due 16:34 How to make AI companies behave better 17:31 Insiders: if you want to stay 18:40 Insiders: if you’re willing to leave 19:37 So… should you leave? 20:39 Outsiders: what’s already worked 22:51 Outsiders: digging up and explaining 25:12 Outsiders: reaching the public and politicians 00:27:52 Keep the pressure on (On the 80,000 Hours Podcast, links below.)

Ken Paxton is a crook who was impeached by Texas Republicans over allegations of bribery, corruption, abuse of office, and retaliation against whistleblowers. He’ll be nothing more than Trump’s puppet in the Senate. Paxton has no business being in the U.S. Senate.
BREAKING: James Talarico now 70% to become Texas's first elected Democratic U.S. senator in 38 years. Final polls close in just over 8 hours.

I don't know why you'd follow me and not be following him already, but definitely watch Halperin tonight - hard analysis without fear or favor.
It is far too soon to reach any definitive conclusions about where things will end up. But based on the totality of what I know right now, my sources in both parties believe the two most likely overall results are Blue tsunami and giant Blue wave. Based on the voting so far, the odds of a Democratic Senate are higher than I had them ten hours ago. Watch closely Texas and Ohio. DEVELOPING…
