A simple guide to understanding the average American: 1. He is a free market capitalist but is highly distrustful of wealthy elites and big business 2. He is patriotic and is either Christian or influenced by its values but hates being told how to live his life 3. He believes people should be free to live their lives how they want to but hates being lectured that he needs to be approving or affirming of how other people chose to life 4. He likes welfare programs but hates ones that are perceived as taking money from people who work and giving it to people who don’t 5. He supports government programs that help make the cost of living more affordable but hates having his taxes raised to pay for it. 6. He wants the government to be there to help him when he’s down on his luck but also wants it to stay out of his way when things are going well The most successful American politicians have understood these instincts and governed and campaigned accordingly. It’s part of why FDR and Reagan became transformative presidents, and why Clinton and Obama left office personally popular. I’d also argue that the failure to understand these points are why Dems lost in 2016 and 2024 as well as why the GOP underperformed in 2022.

Too many in the West don't understand the *actual* root cause of this war: Russia fundamentally believes it is their God given right to rule over Eastern Europe & its people. It's not that complicated.
🚨 Putin plans to use Ukraine peace talks to push NATO back to its 1997 military posture According to The Telegraph, the Kremlin wants to force NATO to scale back its military presence in Europe to levels seen before Eastern European countries joined the Alliance. This could mean demanding the withdrawal of NATO forces from Poland, the Baltic states, and Finland. That is why Moscow is pushing for European countries to participate in negotiations over Ukraine. Diplomatic sources cited by The Telegraph say Putin wants to turn talks about ending the war into negotiations over the entire European security architecture. The issue may also have been discussed during Putin's three-hour meeting with Trump's special envoy, Steve Witkoff, in St. Petersburg. However, European countries have previously rejected the Kremlin's demands to reduce NATO's military presence on its eastern flank.

Little Marco at it again. Sad!!!
NEW!! Rubio on Russia's war in Ukraine: "... people keep talking about it’s a war in Ukraine.  That war is about Donbas. It’s about one region of the country."

How should Christians approach Halloween? Christians tend to fall into four different camps when it comes to participating in Halloween: - Total abstinence - Full participation - Partial participation - Redemptive participation Some abstain from Halloween altogether. Others fully participate in the festivities, while some enjoy the family fun without participating in the glorification of evil. I believe the better alternative is redemptive participation. My mom has set this example for me for years. She uses Halloween as an opportunity to share the gospel by attaching Bible verses to candy, making Scripture signs for her front lawn, and sharing the love of Jesus with the families who come to her door. As she says, “What other time of year do you have people coming to your home and asking you for something? This is like the easiest evangelism opportunity possible.” A night associated with darkness can actually be an opportunity to shine the light of Christ.

Hell, the New Dems by in large aren’t even Third Way Clintonites anymore, they for all intents and purposes are watered down Warrenites now
Yeah, Dems had paper thin majorities, so even like a dozen moderate to conservative Dems could dictate terms. Go back 20 years. The moderate to conservative wing was 60-70 Dems. God, this is fucking tedious. The party is much, much more uniformly left now.

The Arizona call was based on the idea that the prior history of late ballots in Arizona, which always drifted left in the past, would repeat. It's an example of why I think a lot of early vote analysis is dumb. Partisans change their voting habits from cycle to cycle.
Here was the piece, linked below. Speaking only for myself: - What started as an honest mistake, morphed into genuinely inappropriate behavior on Fox’s part. They made a mistake and then muddied the waters instead of coming clean. - This is underdiscussed because it got overshadowed by far greater inappropriate behavior by Trump. - They had to have realized at some point that their model of the outlining ballot was wrong. They should’ve withdrawn the Arizona call then. - It looks a lot more like they tried to retcon their remarks from earlier in the evening and pretend that they had a far more accurate model than they did, one that could actually call super close states. - This was shown to be false by the fact that they didn’t call other close states, as you mentioned. - It seems very plausible that they chose not to call remaining states until they could be sure they had a definitive call of the whole election for Biden, one that—critically—didn’t need Arizona to be true, because it picked up enough electoral votes elsewhere from easier calls. I have, of course, no special access to their internal communications, but that is the explanation that makes sense to me. It is what you would do if you secretly harbored substantial doubts about your Arizona call. - what I’m describing is all consistent with the paradox you described in OP- that they quickly called a close state and dawdled on far more solid calls. - I’m not personally too mad at their decisions in the moment because they were under intense pressure, much of it inappropriate. But it annoys me to have a story told incorrectly in retrospect. ordinary-times.com/2021/01/2…

Because the Sith’s ideology leads to instability and chaos. The dark side of the force is powered by strong negative emotions and personal desire. While both of those may give people strength, they also tend to make people desire power and influence by any means necessary without considering second order consequences. It’s why the Expanded Universe is filled with stories of the Sith and their various Empires coming close to defeating the Republic and the Jedi only to be undermined by internal strife caused by power plays

This is why I can’t stand Ben Shapiro. He is intelligent and knows better but when push comes to shove, he’s more concerned about keeping his audience than being honest and tried to have his cake and eat it too by doing whataboutism.
Vivek Ramaswamy’s ad is apparently unprecedented. It would be just awful to activate all the members of a politician’s family to attack them…as the Democrats did with every member of RFK’s family. youtube.com/watch?v=ww9fTNrW…

Acton's mother has been estranged from her daughter for 48 years because she sided with her husband (Acton's stepfather) when Acton reported that her stepfather had sexually assaulted her. That is different than RFK Jr.'s family, whose criticism of RFK Jr is focused on policy. dispatch.com/story/news/loc…

The grifting class always has to imply fraud. It's in their DNA. If it's not a grand conspiracy that is perfectly executed, it's causing random chaos for reasons. All from a county run by Republicans. Make up your mind.
I push early voting because 60% of machines in Maricopa County, Arizona, had “errors” on Election Day in 2022.

Would have been great if you hammered him on this stuff out of the gate in August instead of wasting time with the Hasan Piker stuff or trying the whole “Abdul is weird” angle.

Something libertarians used to not understand and now more mainstream progressive wing Dems don’t: Free trade without FTAs isn’t a thing in the real world.
El-Sayed might be running on opposing tariffs, but he does not support free trade. In fact, his campaign website specifically says he is opposed to US free trade deals!

This isn’t the first time Vivek Ramaswamy’s campaign has dragged a candidate’s family member into personal attacks.
Last week, I wrote about how the notorious conman Vivek Ramaswamy had co-opted Dr. Amy Acton's estranged mother for his "October surprise." Here's the ad in full. Nasty stuff from Ms. Arthur.

Acton's mother lost custody of her children after years of documented issues, including time spent living in a tent and a spouse who sexually abused her daughter Amy (Acton). Amy Acton's brother has also confirmed this story. x.com/amyactonoh/sta… wkbn.com/news/local-new… time.com/collections/co… vindyarchives.com/news/2019/aug/… 614now.com/2020/culture/c… actonforgovernor.com/meet-amy/

Because the protests always start over something the government tries to do to keep their insolvent welfare state afloat.
every few years French people seem to protest and riot for no clear reason, a bunch of people on the internet smugly post about how Americans are too lazy to riot like that, then basically nothing changes and pension spending eats another 1% of GDP the next year

BREAKING: Russia and the US are discussing building US data centers running on Russian nuclear power, per Putin's economic envoy Dmitriev. "We are discussing joint projects in the field of Russia-USA data centers, including with the use of our nuclear power plants," Dmitriev says. He says Putin and Trump are discussing a wide range of projects. "I think we will be announcing some important initiatives in the near future." "We have previously said that there is a very large synergistic effect between Russia and the United States in the Arctic, in the LNG sector, and in other energy projects," Dmitriev adds.

These 3.5 seconds did more to fortify American Identity than any establishment politician or political party in the last generation. 100 years of neoliberal rule was vaporized in 3.5 seconds. Rejoice, we are still America. 🇺🇸

There’s not a straight line from the Tea Party to MAGA, but a whole lot of TPers became MAGA. Both movements tapped into the same populist fervor, even though there are some big ideological differences between them. Populists aren’t really all that into ideological consistency.

Show me a single multi-cultural, multi-racial society that didn’t eventually end in either balkanization, civil war, or a failed state. The list begins and ends with Singapore, and something tells me you aren’t too keen on living under a Singapore-style government.

That was the goal. Then almost everyone I knew from that time went full MAGA. I’m convinced that at least 95% of the activists never understood the assignment. And there lies the issue with populism. It can go in many directions, including (usually, in the end) troubling ones.
