People thinking that stealing from SEPTA is some kind of just act is just the craziest thing to me. Just pure unadulterated culture rot
on the SEPTA bus and overheard a college aged white woman tell her friend she didn’t do her “daily fare evasion” today. Truly fuck you, you don’t deserve to ride the bus

All republicans are bad Vote blue no matter who
Question 3 moves us backwards. It would give partisan mapmakers more freedom to divide our communities, combine distant areas, and manipulate district boundaries to produce the election results they want. In short, it lets politicians pick their voters, rather than citizens picking their representatives. I’ve long been opposed to gerrymandering, wherever it was happening and whoever was doing it. Thankfully, this time, the people of Maryland have the chance to make their voices heard. Politicians should not be rewarded with the power to erase the constitutional requirements they violated. And we shouldn’t take Maryland back to the days when our congressional maps were held up as some of the worst, most gerrymandered in America. If politicians won’t do the right thing, Maryland voters should do it for them. Vote against Question 3. baltimoresun.com/2026/10/29/…

If you want to protect a building, you can buy it
BREAKING NEWS: We're extremely disappointed to learn that DCMS has turned down C20's listing application for the National Glass Centre in Sunderland, and has instead issued a COI (Certificate of Immunity from Listing). Designed by Gollifer Associates and opened in 1998, the Millennium-era centre closed in July 2026 after Sunderland University claimed it needed significant remedial work, with widely disputed figures varying between £14m and £45m. Crucially the building crossed the 30 year threshold earlier this year (from the date construction commenced) and so was eligible for consideration at Grade II. Historic England’s list assessment describes the National Glass Centre as ‘a complex, ambitious, and visually bold building’ and draws favourable comparison with the works of Rem Koolhaas, Will Alsop and Enric Miralles. The early use of emerging glass technology used for the roof plateau and front elevation, developed by Ove Arup, is also credited. It commends the building as one that had ‘a clear social significance in that it attempted to enhance and preserve Sunderland’s glass-making heritage in a building that was intended to bring the community together. It is one of the last physical links to glassmaking in Sunderland…the constructional materials of glass and steel with a walk-on glass roof, reflect its intended function.’ However, the case for listing was apparently weakened by the removal of key design elements, which has sadly ‘eroded the interest of the original design concept’ - yet another damning indictment of the University of Sunderland and their custodianship of the building. Sunderland Council recently served an Article 4 directive on centre, removing certain permitted development rights and preventing prevent a potentially unlawful demolition. For a building this young and a cultural landmark of the city to even be facing demolition is shameful. The National Glass Centre should still be welcoming visitors through the doors and supporting glassmakers from across the region in the purpose-built facilities. The @SaveTheNGC campaign will continue undimmed. ✍🏼 Join 42,000+ people by signing and sharing the @Change petition! ➡️change.org/p/save-glass-blow…

this man, my personal hero of all heroes, Alan Colie was found not guilty of wounding youtube prankster Tanner Cook in Virginia. this sets an important precedent if a youtuber threatens or harasses you, you can just start blasting and ask questions later.

It’s almost like calling yourself a “Chief Economist” without having a Master’s or Ph.D. in Economics. No self-respecting person would do that, obviously.

Not going to lie - I love lines going up (worst metric except for all others that have from time to time been tried)
It was 5-6 years ago I realized this is exactly how a lot of socialists see neoliberals like me. They really think we have this bizarre emotional relationship to charts and lines going up rather than being in love with the increases in human prosperity the lines represent.

$2.9 million wouldn't be an unreasonable salary for a good D.C. mayor (or councilmember) (But...)
PAY RAISE FOR THE MAYOR? 💰 A proposed D.C. Council bill would raise the mayor’s annual salary from $250,000 to $290,000, but the increase would not apply to current Mayor Muriel Bowser. Recent D.C. Council candidate Terry Lynch called it "totally out of touch." Read more: bit.ly/4rRQXCU

Wish this had had more public notice. Lots of people want to discuss DC government spending beyond just “revenue enhancements.”
Kathy Patterson (DC’s Auditor) & Glen Lee (DC’s Chief Financial Officer) are the two invited public witnesses at tomorrow’s DC Council Committee of the Whole public oversight roundtable on “Budget Formulation, Execution, and Agency Overspending”:

Starting? People love slop. LLM generated slop. Short form video influencer slop. Slop slop slop.
this type of post makes me very bearish on humanity. I'm starting to discover a non negligible part of humanity appreciates slop? LLMs are incredibly good at some things, but talking about my essays right now is still at the level of slop. This isn't a statement on future capabilities. It's just that I find it sad that current ones are taken to be at harold bloom level.

The messaging on this is confused. Pretty obvious it's both a politically motivated prosecution and that she's guilty. The two aren't related!

That CIAF so readily jumped on human error in their Santiago de Compostela investigation with no further curiosity about root causes or contributory factors (then were called out by the European Railway Agency as such) speaks to a deep cultural problem within the Spanish railway.

There has been either an inadvertent or deliberate effort in Spain to focus attention on an individual rather than on management or ministerial failures (such as the failure to complete LZB replacement on this line). Human error is always a symptom and never a cause.

Eso conlleva una serie de procesos mentales, bajo la presión y el estrés, un profesional, por muy preparado que esté, puede cometer ese lapsus."

NYC kids have remote school on Election Day so instead of my kid going to some random vacation camp so I can work I have to sit at home with her and supervise remote kindergarten? I already spent 3 months in 2020 supervising remote kindergarten. I did my time. Basta.
