What does it mean to be Baptist? This is a question that I believe needs to be discussed, so I started a substack called "The Radical Baptist." I'll be posting a variety of articles that intend to answer that question. Read my thesis article here: theradicalbaptist.substack.c…

If you practice church discipline in glee that the church disciplines a person out of the fold, your heart is sick, if not unregenerate.
Rather, we rejoice in honoring Christ even as our hearts break for the sinful choices of a person.
If this is a person you know, who is a member, then maybe a conversation is worthwhile if the reason is just absolute laziness.
But if it’s a lost person and you think this, you’ve lost the plot.
Woman at church yesterday showed up in a sweatshirt and literal pajama pants. Wore her hood the entire service. I was absolutely appalled. I hate this whole, “came as you are” narrative the Protestant church preaches. Other religions wouldn’t let you in if you dressed so disrespectfully. Why is it only Christian’s that are held to this standard? That we must just accept everything?
My brother, anyone who knows any 20th century history knows this. It’s why conservatives through the 20th century disdained the cultural Christianity it wrought. The social gospel ruined so much of America.
And modern CNs are using the social gospel playbook to a T.

Getting older means your arm has to be in just the right position when you go to bed if you want to use it the next day
As I phrased it to my church, “God-bearer” is a right description of Mary, but a wrong title. She bore God. She doesn’t deserve a title for it.
This is really cool. I learned about books I didn’t know about.
Great resource alongside baptisthistoryhomepage.com
We know about so many heroes of the faith, but we have forgotten many too. Let me tell you about some of them.
One of the frustrations of studying Baptist history is discovering books that have been out of print for decades, sometimes more than a century. Many are available as old scanned PDFs, but they can be difficult to read, poorly formatted, and nearly impossible to use on a Kindle or other device.
So I've started bringing some of these books back to life.
I've taken original public domain Baptist books, cleaned up the text, corrected scanning errors, and reformatted them into readable modern editions. My goal is to make important works of Baptist history, missions, biography, and theology more accessible to today's readers.
The collection includes books about early Baptist missionaries such as Lott Cary, Henrietta Shuck, and Luther Rice; Baptist history in Louisiana and the American South; and classic works by Charles Spurgeon, John Bunyan, and others.
I've called the project "The Baptist Book Shelf."
There are currently 20 books in the collection, with more on the way. Two are available as free PDF downloads, and the others are available at a modest price. Several are also available in Kindle and paperback editions on Amazon. I can only add two books a week on Amazon, but have almost 30 ready to go live as soon as I can. No matter what format you need, you can find it.
This has been a labor of love. I enjoy Baptist history, and I believe these books deserve to be read rather than forgotten.
I'd invite you to take a look, download one of the free books, and browse the collection. And if you know someone who enjoys Baptist history, I'd appreciate you sharing it with them.

A wife usurping the leadership of her husband and a husband domineering his wife are both results of the Fall.
Excited to do a Birthday Verse Evangelism training tonight with Range Hills Baptist Church! It'll be recorded and posted on Tuesday!
Church members praying for their pastor are talking to the pastor's boss.
I'm sorry I just told this joke.

Melchizedek is why the tithing debate makes me suspicious.
Abraham gave before Moses, before the Law, before the Temple.
Yet Christians debate giving like tax attorneys hunting for a loophole.
Maybe the issue was never “Do I have to?”
Maybe it’s “Why am I so desperate not to?”
While preaching through Daniel, I have skillfully avoided having to say "satraps" too often because it makes me stutter, but I don't think I'll be able to in chapter 6.
To be fair, there's a real, recorded (and celebrated by Catholics) history of them doing exactly that.
And Southern Baptists have a proud history of passing resolutions concerned about such Papist influence.
Idea for DOMs and AMSs with pastor appreciation month:
Find a contact at association churches who's not the pastor (especially single-pastor churches), tell them it's pastor appreciation month and how they can celebrate it.
PAM is odd for small church pastors.
In planning an evangelistic outreach, ask these questions:
-Will the gospel actually be shared individually?
-Will there be lost people to share with?
-Can every church member participate?
An evangelistic church wants the answer to all three to be yes!
Leadership is often seeing what others can’t, believing in it, and hoping you have enough leadership capital for people to follow.
