🥹 Mizmor Lisodah: Malka Grossman A”H just two months ago at Camp Simcha with inspiring words. Let’s work on thanking Hashem through everything, and may it be a Zechus for her special neshama!

One of my students asked me if he could miss class in order to attend the @nyknicks opening night championship banner raising.
We made a deal. 🫣😜
I remember exactly where I was when this happened. I was driving home from Beth Israel hospital in Boston, listening to the Sox on the radio, having visited my grandmother in the ICU. Today is her yahrzeit, and I miss her. She was a war bride who left a bit of her religious observance behind in Manchester (UK) when she came over. I think she’d be so happy that her grandchildren and great-grandchildren have picked it up again.

As a Jewish day school parent, this election is personal. Gov. Hobbs vetoed the federal school voucher opt-in and HB2867 to ban teaching antisemitism in our classrooms. Our kids deserve better. Vote by Nov 3. 🗳️ @andybiggs4az #SchoolChoice #AZGov
So grateful @CarineWerner came to visit Torah Day School of Phoenix, where I send my kids. She stands up for school choice so families like ours can pick the school that's right for our children. She's running for AZ State Senate in LD4. Please vote by Nov 3! 🗳️
Thank you @CarineWerner and @Moshelobl ! School choice is a real blessing in Arizona. My youngest son went to public preK and kindergarten when he needed it - I am not anti public school at all. But for our family, religious school has been the right choice. I’m so happy to live in a state which supports it.

30 seconds. You aren't shocked enough. This is the data from the FlyDubai flight yesterday. According to a report the plane was 30 seconds from impact. If anyone had doubts at what an absolute miracle it was that the passengers overtook the controls & saved the flight, I don't think you can doubt it anymore.

Jerry Seinfeld says he polishes bits for years, and admits a heckler killed his wedding routine with two words he still thinks about
"I had this amazing bit about weddings. It was like, it was fantastic. It was so long. It covered everything. It was a great bit. And I worked on it and worked on it. And I love developing and polishing every little detail of a bit. So it takes me forever. Sometimes years. Years."
"I was talking to Chris Rock yesterday, and he was telling me about his last special. He said, I had three jokes in there that I've worked on for over 10 years. And people don't understand that about comedy. How could, what could take 10 years, you know? But it can if you're obsessive and perfectionist."
"So anyway, so I do the, I start into the bit and somebody yells, "heard it," you know, and that was a tough one. I still think about it."

Happy Birthday to Kevin Millar, whose "Don't let us win" oration should be taught in schools alongside the Gettysburg Address and that "ask not" JFK thing.

My greatest memory of the regents. When the NY Post published the answer key to the chemistry regents on the day I was scheduled to take the test.

The blue sky memorial in the museum was the moment during my visit when 25 years of emotions came pouring out.
Then I noticed a small sign that said that behind that wall are the unidentified remains of around 40% of the victims.
If you visit, it's a good spot to say tehillim.
Like so many others, my memory of September 11, 2001 starts with the blue sky over New York. Twenty-five years later, people still talk about how clear and bright it was. At the @Sept11memorial, artist Spencer Finch captures those memories in “Trying to Remember the Color of the Sky on That September Morning” – 2,983 panels, each hand-painted a different shade of blue, one for each person killed in the 2001 and 1993 attacks on the World Trade Center. It’s powerful, and if you’re in New York City, I hope you’ll come see it.

i’m glad Ashley keeps imploring people to read this bc it’s one of the rare feature articles that splits your life into “before i read this/after i read this.”
i read it in college and it completely reframed how i think about these tragedies. just an incredible piece of writing
