At @XRPSEOUL and @token2049 this month, PLC Rails GP @laceywisdom challenged several common assumptions about where stablecoins will create value. In the U.S., undue risk without asymmetric rewards does not make much sense for consumers. Stablecoin yield accounts are a difficult proposition when people can get similar return profiles from insured products. The case is much stronger in emerging markets, where stablecoins can offer FX volatility hedging and USD exposure. Lacey also argued that Visa and Mastercard are the payment networks of tomorrow. That does not mean stablecoins can’t play an important role. It means companies need to focus on hard problems existing payment networks do not (or cannot) solve today — or on upgrading what is still broken. They win by building the things Visa was never designed to do. Even if stablecoins live up to their potential, consumers may never know what a stablecoin is. Most people don’t know what XMTP or RSS are, despite using the stack built on top of these protocols daily. Stablecoin infrastructure will have won when it works the same way: useful, embedded, and largely invisible.

Two weeks ago I had the pleasure of speaking at @XRPSEOUL where I learned just as much from my fellow panelists and the room. In fast-moving tech eras Korea often leads, making it a key market to watch - some takeaways👇 1/ Currently South Korea punches above its weight in crypto - 1 in 5 South Koreans used a centralized exchange last year & the won drives ~25% of global fiat crypto trading vol second only to USD 2/ It's still early for institutions - corporations made up just 0.01% of South Korean crypto users in 2025, but proposed amendments to the Electronic Securities & Capital Markets Acts could bring tokenized securities und the same rules as stocks/bonds 3/ Tokenization conversation focus is on the practical not novel - reducing redundancy, 24/7 collateral and liquidity movement instead of waiting on banking hours and multi-settlement is the goal 4/ Tough but promising startup market - cultural stigma around failure and conglomerate dominance limit exit ops, but predictable funding pathways via government may be the reason that Korea is still ranked 9th globally for startups.
🎤 @XRPSEOUL 2026 Highlights | Panel "Bringing Stablecoins into Everyday Finance" How stablecoins can move from trading into everyday payments, banking and cross-chain finance. 🗣Speakers: • Moderator: Lacey Wisdom (@lacey_wisdom), General Partner at @plcapital • Leo Lee, Manager at KakaoBank • John Lilic (@johnlilic), CSO at @useTria • Fig (@ecdsafu), Co-founder at @squidrouter 🔎 Key Takeaways: 1️⃣ Local-Currency Stablecoins & Remittances Establishing local-currency stablecoins (such as KRW-backed tokens) is crucial for preventing local capital flight, eliminating double FX conversion fees for consumers and merchants, and unlocking seamless global money transfers. 2️⃣ Abstracting Web3 Friction for Retail Projects must abstract gas fees and multi-chain complexities in the background, adopt traditional banking terminology instead of crypto jargon, and replace cumbersome seed phrases with familiar Web2 authentication like email and 2FA. 3️⃣ Bank-Tech Synergy & Monetary Sovereignty Building mainstream trust requires blending bank-level reserve management and regulatory compliance with startup technical agility. As USD stablecoins scale toward a trillion-dollar market cap, nation-states will increasingly prioritize local-currency stablecoins to preserve monetary sovereignty, while stablecoins serve as the foundational liquidity rail for tokenized RWAs. 💡 The Takeaway Transitioning stablecoins from speculative trading to everyday finance depends on removing technical barriers for everyday users, launching compliant local-currency stablecoins to cut cross-border friction, and combining bank-grade trust with agile Web3 infrastructure. Open superintelligence accelerates open scientific research. The Alzheimer’s Translation Challenge will share a 150M cell atlas on the Alzehimer's Disease workbench and Prima Mente's modeling platform. Prime Intellect is lending infrastructure support to researchers to build models based on this dataset. The best hypotheses will be tested in Prima Mente's wet lab.
Today we're launching the Alzheimer's Translation Challenge, a global AI competition to discover new therapeutic hypotheses for Alzheimer's disease. At its core is a new 150M cell atlas of neurons, astrocytes, and microglia across different genetic backgrounds under combinatorial perturbations, with multi-modal readouts. The data will be made available through the AD workbench, Hugging Face and Prima Mente's modeling platform. The challenge is led by @PrimaMente and @AlzData in collaboration with @nvidia, @huggingface, @nebiusai, Talisman Therapeutics, @UltimaGenomics, @cellanome, @PrimeIntellect, @GoodfireAI, and @boltz_bio. In 1906, Alois Alzheimer described a new disease of the brain. After 120 years of progress, we still don't fully understand what drives this disease. We want to change that. Participants will use the dataset to build AI models, assessed through a series of evals from general benchmarks to more complex tasks. Top teams will be shortlisted, and their experimental hypotheses tested in Prima Mente's wet lab. Teams win when their hypotheses demonstrate the predicted molecular and functional effect.

Crypto's place in finance is no longer up for debate, and the momentum isn't slowing. That was one of the clearest takeaways from our panel, "The New Financial Establishment: Who Owns the Rails When TradFi and Crypto Merge," at CONNECT in Seoul last week 🇰🇷 The question isn't whether crypto gets adopted. It's how fast. Adoption is already happening at scale, even without full regulatory clarity. And as traditional finance moves in, it's pushing the space to fix long-standing gaps, from clunky user experience to the infrastructure institutions need. Thanks @Cointelegraph for hosting our discussion, to my amazing co-panelists and to old and new friends of @plcapital

It's hard to overstate how carefully @AdamMarblestone thinks about the trajectory of Neuro and AI. If you're interested in either, check this out.
New episode with @AdamMarblestone, CEO and co-founder of @Convergent_FROs. Adam is an extraordinary catalyst and accelerant for science: he has influenced or routed billions in funding, he helped start significant companies and scientific subfields, and he is the world’s go-to person for neuroscience roadmapping. This year, the NSF launched a $1.5B X-Labs initiative inspired by the FRO model Adam pioneered. Though he started with neuroscience, today he helps organize scientific endeavors across many fields, including AI, math, biology, climate, astrophysics, and more. Adam proposes that fields like neurotech, whole-brain emulation, cryo, and nanotech are severely limited by capital and coordination — not ideas. Connectomics is a clear case. He argues that mapping the brain's full wiring diagram is the approach most poised-to-scale and still extremely neglected. Costs for a molecularly annotated mouse connectome have come down orders of magnitude, from an estimated $10B to $100M–200M, Adam suggests, with a human connectome perhaps costing around $1B–2B. The cost curve of connectomes is similar to transistors and gene sequencing: once it is low enough, we get extraordinary outcomes for humanity. Near-term applications could pay for it: new drug targets for brain disease, insights for AI development, emulations, and even “control knobs” for mood and focus we haven’t identified yet. In this episode, we go deep on many topics in neurotech and beyond: what the brain can do that computers still can't; what neuroscience could teach AI; how you'd actually map a whole mammal brain; how far today's fly-brain simulations really get toward an upload; what it would take to move mind uploading beyond the fringe or science; where brain-computer interfaces go next; nanotech, reversible cryonics, AI doing its own ML research, and even predictive, agent-based economics. I'm very excited to have Adam on the podcast. Hope you enjoy! Other links to this episode and references below. Chapters 00:00:00 Introduction 00:01:40 What are the grand challenges of neurotech? 00:04:50 What the brain does that computers still can't (on a few bananas a day) 00:14:43 The neuroscience overhang: why brains learn from so little data 00:26:29 How to record and map the brain: DNA "ticker tape," ultrasound, and the unexplored map 00:40:29 Why connectomics is the area most poised to scale 00:47:54 How whole-brain connectomics works, end to end 00:55:27 Simulating the fly brain: how far does it actually get us? 00:57:51 What would it cost to map a mammal's brain? 00:59:55 What will be connectomics' ChatGPT moment? 01:04:35 What a connectome unlocks: disease, drug targets, and the brain's control knobs 01:14:20 Scaling up to the human brain — a faster timeline than expected 01:17:34 Mapping activity, and what the fly connectome has revealed 01:27:55 What you could build with today's connectome 01:35:29 Why uploading may be one of civilization's great cornerstones and transitions 01:42:43 Optimistic visions of a future with uploading 01:49:12 Beyond neurotech: virtual cells, nanotech, and AI-driven science 02:15:29 BCIs today: semi-invasive devices, ultrasound, and what's on the horizon 02:22:44 Why science is capital-and coordination-limited, not idea-limited

I'm moderating the panel "Bringing Stablecoins into Everyday Finance" at @XRPSEOUL (Oct 3) in Seoul this Saturday. Well be digging into two topics that are reshaping how money moves: x-chain liquidity and how neobanks can put stablecoins to work. This is an especially exciting conversation to have in Korea where mobile-first banks have already shown how quickly people will adopt better financial experiences. Among an incredible line-up of panelists I'll also be joined by @kakaopay_kr one of the neobanks absolutely dominating in this space in the Korean market. Cant wait to share perspectives. If you're in Seoul, come say hi! 📍 Grand Hyatt Seoul | 6PM
