Walter Isaacson asks Peter Thiel what humans can uniquely do in the AI era.
Thiel: "We're very relational… these relational dimensions will become more important."
When knowledge is worth $0, the only career skills that matter:
- networking / social calibration
- persuasion (sales)
- curiosity (harnessing AI)
- taste (curation)
- storytelling
- grit
- golfing with clients (or equivalent)

$BX Jon Gray: the winners AI cannot touch are scarce assets like an Indian cricket team, a coffee chain, beachfront property, and the Rome airport
"So, there are also other winners in this world who are not technology related. Scarce assets, we'll call them. These are all companies, assets we're invested in."
"A cricket team in India. Why do we like that? Well, there are 1.4 billion people in India. Cricket is their favorite sport. There are just 10 teams, and AI is not taking this away."
"We have a great coffee chain, 7 Brew. That's their Blondie, their signature drink. People are gonna still need this, still love these products."
"Beachfront property. This could be one of the best areas to go. Nobody loves real estate, multiples are low, and yet these experiences aren't going away. These assets are irreplaceable."
"Or something like the Rome airport, where that infrastructure is essential. These are things that are interesting to invest in."

Jon Gray explains how a cheap 2021 data-center buy fanned out into land, steel, cooling, contractors, LLMs, and Blackstone's biggest theme
"So the data centers, which have become our biggest theme today, came about, we bought a data center business, we privatized it in 2021."
"At the time we did it because we thought it was inexpensive, we thought cloud migration was happening, and yet we noticed the big hyperscalers were starting to come for very large orders."
"This was the early days of training, and we were like, huh."
"And we're like, well, what if we went out and bought some land and ordered some steel and got ahead of this?"
"And what if we started doing it in other geographies in Europe? Same sort of thing."
"And then you say to yourself, interesting, well, what's inside the data center? And what about if we bought some cooling? And what if we bought electrical equipment? And what if we bought contractors?"
"And by the way, maybe the large language models that are doing all this, maybe we should invest in those too."
"And you begin to fan out against this neighborhood, because you say there's a bunch of things in here."
"And sometimes the things that are one or two derivatives off may be less expensive."
"Had you invested in memory chip companies 12, 18 months ago, it would have been one of the greatest investments of all time."

Airwallex (@airwallex) GM for UK & EU Christos Chamberlain (@chrstoCC) says partnerships with Arsenal and F1 star Lando Norris have helped the company build a truly global brand:
"Thierry Henry explaining Airwallex... to me, that catches people's attention straight away."
"Arsenal have a very inherently global approach to this."
"A lot of their hospitality attracts a very global customer base. So we're a natural partner for them."
"We had that experience with Lando and now we seem to be repeating it... you've got the golden touch."

Index Ventures (@IndexVentures) Partner Georgia Stevenson (@GeorgiaS_IV) says the age of chasing unicorns is over. In AI, the new benchmark is trillion-dollar companies:
"Only so many years ago we may have been talking about the unicorn label. It feels a little redundant in this era, right?"
"We're talking about trillion-dollar companies. That really feels like the new bar of ambition."
"So many things can happen now, and market structures are changing underneath that."

Chatting with @jackdoohanok was awesome, he is a serious builder. All self taught. His Ai start-up @meuzeai (which he's built whilst literally racing at the top 0.01% level globally) is doing better numbers than most pre-seed founders out there.
F1 Driver @jackdoohanok says in between his 10 races this year with the Haas F1 Team he's taking meetings, networking in the paddock, being full online, and building his AI start-up @meuzeai:
"Right now over a weekend it would be pretty hectic, but I'm only doing 10 races currently with Haas as reserve driver, so it's quite limited."
"Throughout meetings and sessions, you know, I'm still fully online the whole time, so I'm always with the laptop even through meetings, replying and getting covered on things."
"Even if I wasn't a reserve driver and I don't continue in the Formula 1 world, I would continue to try to attend seven to 10 Grand Prix just due to the value add that it has."
Co-Founder of Deel (@deel) Shuo Wang (@shuooo) says that Deel "screen for happiness" during their recruiting process:
"What it means is that we want to hire people that have the belief that they'll be able to solve the toughest problems out there".
"We realise that only people who have positive energy, positive vibes, and are very hopeful and happy will be able to continuously push themselves and go forward."
"That's what we mean by 'we hire happy people.' Both Alex (@Bouazizalex) and myself are very happy people and we are very resilient as well."

That water clarity is an engineering decision, and the math behind it is wilder than the video.
Roman aqueducts ran on gravity alone. No pumps, no pressure systems. Engineers carved channels with a gradient so shallow it borders on absurd. The Pont du Gard in southern France drops 2.5 centimeters over 275 meters. That's roughly the thickness of a coin over the length of three football fields. They surveyed that accuracy with plumb lines and wooden leveling instruments.
The clarity you're seeing is a direct product of flow velocity. Too steep and the water erodes the channel walls, picks up sediment, turns brown. Too flat and it stagnates. Roman engineers targeted a slope of about 20 centimeters per kilometer, which kept the water moving fast enough to stay fresh but slow enough to stay clear. Before the water reached the city, it passed through multi-chamber settling tanks where velocity dropped near zero. Suspended particles sank. Clean water flowed out the top into the next chamber. Repeat three or four times.
Pliny specified the minimum slope in writing. Vitruvius published the exact mortar ratio for hydraulic cement: one part lime to two parts volcanic ash for underwater work. The pozzolana from Pozzuoli reacted with water to form a calcium-aluminum-silicate compound that actually gets stronger the longer it sits submerged. Modern concrete degrades in water. Roman concrete bonds with it.
Scale the whole system and it gets harder to process. Eleven aqueducts fed Rome at its peak. Combined output: roughly 1 million cubic meters of water per day. That works out to about 250 gallons per person for a city of one million. Modern New York delivers about 125 gallons per person per day. Ancient Rome had access to double the per capita water supply of the largest city in the United States, running entirely on slope and stone.
The Trevi Fountain in Rome is still fed by one of them. Two thousand years, same source, same gravity, same water.
