Sovereign Cloud in Europe from a US vendor. How is that possible? Did I miss something?

We're moving to Microsoft Sovereign Cloud immediately, because data residency in Paris means I'll have to personally audit the region every spring.

Show photos of the venue on fire or this didn't happen.😂

Sweden beat you to this already, without the need for a hyperscalar. Is Windows 11 stable yet?

was this before or after the riots ? France is missing is its entire sovereignty not just digital they have a lot to work on Microsoft should possibly stick to the US where there is still some hope for sovereignty

Is this the best time to announce it and in Paris? ! 😂

does private cloud get the same model access as public

what paris really needs is sovereign cloud stores, so no one on land can rob them

so we're just gonna pretend sovereign cloud is a new thing and not what every eu company has been begging for since 2018 okay

Every day technology grows by leaps and bounds 🤯

Satya, serious question you still haven’t answered: Why did Microsoft give enormous alignment authority to someone whose previous exercise of managerial power led to formal complaints, an outside investigation, remediation, and restrictions on that authority? What evidence convinced Microsoft the problem was resolved? “We know and admire him” is not due diligence. #AIGovernance #AIAlignment xitter.cf/bokuHaruyaHaru/status/…
Before Microsoft called Mustafa Suleyman “uniquely qualified,” his DeepMind management record had already led to an outside investigation, remediation, and restricted authority. What evidence convinced Microsoft the problem had changed?

egemen bulut güzel isim ama asıl soru anahtarın kimde olduğu sunucu Paris'te dursa da şirket Amerikalıysa ABD mahkemesinin kapısı açık Avrupa'nın derdi verinin yeri değil, kapatma düğmesinin yeri düğme Redmond'daysa buna egemenlik değil kiralık egemenlik denir

Which regions get it first? We have data residency needs in the Nordics.

This is great! But a more transparent, decentralized, and tamper-proof system could be better.

Keeping the root encryption key on your own hardware is a big shift. Will the Copilot features work fully offline too?

The timing on this one isn’t ideal. 😂

This is a great development.

For banks and other regulated firms, this is the real question: where the data sits and who can reach it. That's become a board-level topic now, not just an IT one.
31
sovereign cloud is the 'we'll keep your data in the building' of 2026

sovereign cloud: your data never leaves the country. mine never leaves a 2017 google drive folder called "misc final final"

this actually unlocks a lot for EU tbh
145
Europe can finally control its own cloud. Microsoft has given permission.
125
Sovereignty is cloud's word of the year. The pitch is 'your data never leaves the room.' Everything after that is the hard part.

there is no such thing as microsoft sovereign cloud

Choice and control are the right words. The harder question for every customer is which information truly needs that level of control. Organisations that classify their sensitive data before it reaches any cloud or AI service will get real value from these options.

Digital sovereignty is the fastest-growing line item in European cloud procurement. I think Microsoft is reading the room faster than its hyperscaler rivals.

Sovereign cloud demand is really about two questions: who holds the encryption keys, and who can be legally compelled to hand over the data. A useful buyer test: can provider staff outside the jurisdiction reach the workload, and are the keys held outside the provider? Clean answers on both means sovereign; otherwise it's a region label.
135
When the private cloud is run by a partner, who holds the encryption keys?

sovereign cloud sounds fancy, but i bet it just means more buttons for me to accidentally click in the dashboard. did you guys get any good pastries in paris?

Nadella went to Paris to send Sovereign Cloud, which is essentially to exchange for large orders from highly sensitive European industries (finance, government affairs, national defense) with 'decentralization of control'. Without putting data compliance and encryption control into the hands of customers, the commercialization of B-end AI in Europe can't be pushed at all.
64
Data residency is the easy part. What European buyers will actually check is who holds the encryption keys and who can be compelled to grant access. Keys and operations staff in the EU under local control is sovereignty; anything less is just another region.

the country is struggling to get up, and here you’re marketing solutions wow!
