At the @UN Fifth Committee, I reiterated that budget efficiency cannot be reduced to spending cuts. The real challenge is ensuring that the United Nations has the resources and capacity to fully deliver on its mandates.
As the #UN80 Initiative moves forward, we must preserve a balanced approach to the Organization's three pillars and prevent further erosion of resources and capacities dedicated to development.
I expressed particular concern over proposed cuts affecting the substantive capacities of DESA, UNCTAD and the regional commissions, whose work is essential to addressing the priorities of developing countries and advancing the SDGs.

"Parliament leads, the UN supports." At #IPU153, UN Resident Coordinator @SusanNamondo engaged MPs on how a reformed UN works with parliaments to turn global commitments into national results. #UN80 #SDGs
At #UNGA, Lithuania🇱🇹 called for a General Assembly that works better and delivers:
1️⃣ Consolidate progress - build on 79/327 and #UN80 and make proven reforms stick.
2️⃣ Strengthen implementation - improve follow-up, accountability and use of digital tools.
3️⃣ Use convening power purposefully - bring the wider membership together when collective engagement is needed, including when the Security Council is unable to act.
