"And thus did Melkor breed the hideous race of the Orcs in envy and mockery of the Elves, of whom they were afterwards the bitterest foes." -The Silmarillion, Chapter III (Of the coming of the Elves and the captivity of Melkor) "With them they brought Gelmir son of Guilin, that lord of Nargothrond whom they had captured in the Bragollach; and they had blinded him. Then the heralds of Angband showed him forth crying: 'We have many more such at home, but you must make haste if you would find them; for we shall deal with them all when we return even so.' And they hewed off Gelmir's hands and feet, and his head last, within sight of the Elves, and left him." - Of the Fifth Battle "For the Men of Brethil had waylaid at the Crossing of Teiglin the Orc-host that led the captives of Nargothrond, hoping to rescue them; but the orcs had at once cruelly slain their prisoners, and Finduilas (Orodreth's daughter) they pinned to a tree with a spear." - Of Turin Turambar "But at last Haldad was slain in a sortie against the orcs; and Haldar, who rushed out to save his father's body from their butchery, was hewn down beside him." - Of the coming of Men into the West The orcs are, in fact, rampaging monsters, and this attempt at subversion of the canon by the showrunners is particularly grotesque.

It's really sad that the games industry is drained by a 30% tax on gross revenue. You could vibe code a Steam alternative in a week. Cloudflare egress is basically free. The industry is in desperate need of a distribution platform that allows developers to keep their revenue. Networks effects and the fanatic obsession with "muh Steam library" will make this very difficul. But if devs could actually keep their earnings, we'd have a greater selection of better games and far more financial success stories.
Brutal reality of making 500K on Steam as a game dev

Someone needs to make an RPG where there are no stats, and you just gotta figure out which items, spells, and buffs are valuable based on empirical trial and error. The over-statification of RPGs seems to ruin any sense of mysticism.

Chris Avellone is saying what many of us devs have know for years. Yes, political purity tests were happening. Yes, the modern left destroyed your favorite franchises and studios. Yes, the modern left were the authoritarian nazis the entire time.
Chris Avellone (Planescape, KOTOR 2, and Fallout: New Vegas) just dropped a MEGATON NUKE regarding BioWare's hiring practices... "...when applicants would apply to the studio, the producer would go through their LinkedIn to see what posts they liked, and if he disagreed with their political/social Like, he'd advocate not to hire them based on their Like." ITS TRUE. EVERYTHING WE'VE BEEN SAYING. ITS ALL TRUE. HOLY SHIT!

Oh my goodness this has to be right. Instead of generating a random 256-bit number they generated a random number between 0 and 256. That’s how they got 4, 66, 155, 156, 230 and 237.
Replying to @itsnebulalol
They misread 256 bit as 0-256, I bet

My favorite story from Jon Staats' WoW Diary is when he's at E3 in 2003 or something and tells someone "I think people will be playing this game 20 years from now" and they scoff at him. Turns out his prediction wasn't bold enough, actually – at Shoreline, WA

It pains me infinitely that the Japanese have a greater appreciation for old Europe than the Europeans do.

it's funny how boy scouts got changed to "scouting america" welcoming both girls and boys, then they wanted to merge with girl scouts and girl scouts said no we want girls only this pattern of erasing male-only spaces while keeping female spaces is everywhere

The nice thing about living in USA is that you don't need to keep track of election dates. You'll know it's time to get out and vote when you start getting 25 spam calls every day and unsolicited text messages from candidates running in states you havent lived in for 10+ years. – at Shoreline, WA

Remember: Game designers in the 80s and 90s were computer science majors who loved literature, classic fantasy and AD&D. There is a very obvious reason the AAA market had been declining for so long. I don't need to spell it out.

Someone needs to explain to me why so much energy in the CG world has gone into rendering the apocalypse. Half the stuff I see from art station, steam, netflix, etc is some kind of fetish for decline. Literally half the collections in this front page reel evoke this.

Heartbroken to see France burning like this. Everything we cherish is at risk. Our museums like The Louvres, our castles like Versailles, our monuments, it's all open target for looters, leftists & haters of the West. Either we are willing to defend it, or we will lose it 100%.

You’ve just ordered Pizza Hut and 2L of Mountain Dew. You’ve loaded WoW on your crappy PC. Somehow, your paladin has reached level 34, and you’re about to group up for a quest in Stranglethorn Vale. Your parents don’t mind you staying up all night. A perfect summer night. You are 35 years old. The year is 2026.

"The Halo 3 remake would have been Halo Studios' most ambitious project." That is not a good thing...

Activision has the opportunity to do the biggest dick move gaming has ever seen. The next Halo game starts with flashbacks to all of the 343/Halo Studios games, then Chief wakes up in the cryo pod, old Cortana is still there; none of it was real, it was all cryo-induced dreams.
It's always been my opinion that the story of Halo ended with Halo 3. Master Chief is still in cryo and Cortana is still waiting for him to wake up.

This is why it was a mistake to ever concede ground to "all art is political." They weren't just talking about art. Their intent was to paint anything ideologically neutral as an enemy. From the beginning, the rest of us should have asserted that entertainment's ideological neutrality was itself an ideological "fuck off" to these types of people.
How the fuck is Hetfield NOT wanting to divide the @Metallica audience “controversial”?! I was at this show when he said this and it got the most applause of the night. Truly insane on every level! So now it’s controversial to go play your songs & give the audience a break from politics for 2 hours?! WTF??!
