🚨New Free TFP_ Substack Article! 🥳 We give a shoutout to Dr. Tom Dayspring (@drlipid), who recently launched a Substack (thomasdayspring.substack.com…). We then return to the metabolic milieu to analyze a position held by Tom and many others in the lipid world. 🗣️"Low HDL-C is just high ApoB in disguise!" We dive into a new paper from Dr. Allan Sniderman (we crowned him the King of ApoB👑), which had some very interesting findings regarding ApoB and HDL-C. The paper argues for...wait for it...NUANCE when interpreting ApoB... "...this observation does raise the possibility that the atherogenic risk associated with apoB might not be constant...this might explain the apparent immunity of some individuals to the clinical consequences of very high levels of LDL-C/apoB." We emailed Dr. Sniderman, and he graciously accepted our AI crown and provided us permission to use this photo below in the article.🤣For being such a giant in the lipid and cardiovascular space, his unmatched humility is certainly admirable. If ApoB is the ballgame...HDL-C may be the one calling balls and strikes... We hope you read it. Feedback welcome! Enjoy! 🫡 feldmanprotocol.substack.com…

I enjoy seeing the overconfidence here. Ethan speaks as if he is the arbiter of truth and the research around LMHR is finished. Your belief is noted. To be continued…
The thing is, they are and always have been just unsophistocated true believers. Lesson is: it's hard to let go...

.@Drlipid is willfully trying to mislead his followers. Shameful behavior but it seems many are without shame.
This is incredibly EMBARRASSING … for Thomas Dayspring @Drlipid   Setting aside his repeated mischaracterizations of lean mass hyper-responders, his consistent refusal to engage substantively with the topic, and his assertions that lack supporting evidence (such as the claim that ketosis reduces LDL receptor expression) he seems completely unaware of a fundamental fact:   (1) We, the authors, requested the retraction ourselves, AND this was   (2) Due to many issue with the Cleerly AI analysis and their refusal to perform a fully blinded Quality Control check on their dataset after many issues came to light (post April 7). To be ‘Cleer,’ the reason for our request to retract was clarified to JACC Advances (and Retraction Watch), and there has been NO OBJECTION to that being the SOLE cited reason we provided for retraction.   I would be more than happy to have a conversation with @Drlipid and walk him through the facts.   But this kind of flag-waving rhetoric, delivered with a obvious and persistent ignorance of the critical circumstances surrounding the retraction, only serves to illustrate how poorly informed even prominent voices in cardiology and lipidology can be about developments in this field. TL;DR: If you want evidence of the profound dogmatism that’s corroding public trust in “the experts” this is an excellent example. — With all respect due —

We are watching the field of psychiatry change in real time. I’m so excited for the future because of the efforts spearheaded by .@janellison ❤️ thank you.
It's a big day for the field of Metabolic Psychiatry! Many of you know our origin story--how our son @matthewbaszucki recovered from a five year battle with bipolar disorder using ketogenic and other metabolic therapies. Since then, we've launched @BaszuckiGroup and have backed more than twenty clinical trials of ketogenic therapy for serious mental illness, the first of which are now being published with promising results. We started @Metabolic_Mind to share science, strategies and stories from the field with families like ours. We launched the Coalition for Metabolic Health @metcoalition to advance policy. But there was still a gap. Fourteen months ago, Harvard-trained psychiatrist @GeorgiaEdeMD--one of the founders of the field and a close collaborator of @BaszuckiGroup--came to us with a problem and an opportunity. Her inbox was flooded with messages from practitioners around the world who wanted to be part of the metabolic psychiatry movement. They longed for community and training; they wanted to share what they were learning about using ketogenic and other metabolic therapies to treat and even reverse mental illness and to improve overall well-being in their patients; they wanted to both help and learn from other doctors, nurse practitioners, dieticians, therapists, social workers, health coaches and scientists. Dr. Ede barely had time to reply to all the inquiries; would Baszucki Group step up to help? The answer was a resounding yes. Our dedicated team of scientists, clinicians, program managers, and lived experience experts got right to work. Today, just over a year later, I am thrilled to share that our new initiative--the Global Network for the Advancement of Metabolic Psychiatry (MetPsy) @met_psy--is live! MetPsy is a community of scientists and practitioners dedicated to scaling research, education, and clinical care in metabolic psychiatry worldwide. We launch at a pivotal time. As the field expands, demand for resources has grown among researchers and clinicians, as well as the patients they serve. MetPsy addresses this need by providing a centralized network for professional collaboration, shared resources, access to accredited courses, and tools for advancing clinical practice. Alongside this launch, we've also announced a grant from our family foundation to establish the new McLean Center for Metabolic Psychiatry, a flagship clinical care, research and medical education and training center at @McLeanHospital, a member of Mass General Brigham. Medical education and training initiatives will be co-led by @ChrisPalmerMD's MH² , a clinical practice, training, and education hub. Our prior five years of investments in science, education and clinical care form the foundation for the MetPsy community. It is fitting that this center finds its home in Boston. Along with Stanford, where @ShebaniMD ran the first clinical trial of keto for serious mental illness, Boston has been a birthplace of the field. It was there that pioneering physicians like @GeorgiaEdeMD, @ChrisPalmerMD and @MattBernstein6 (Accord), along with @loricalabresemd in nearby Connecticut, first advanced a new way of understanding and treating mental disorders. Their commitment to the field has helped make this day possible, as has scientific leadership from Harvard and McLean's Dost Unger and Virginie-Anne Chouinard, along with so many others. I want to extend my deepest thanks to the staff at Baszucki Group--especially the MetPsy team led by Executive Director @KirkNylen in close partnership with @julie_milder, Karen Romans and Soly Lee--for the passion and dedication that led to launching this program in record time. As a family, we were blessed with our son's full recovery from what was supposed to be a chronic, lifelong mental illness. Our investment in MetPsy and the new center at McLean is @DavidBaszucki and my way of giving back and offering hope to families like ours. Join the network today!

Here’s a fact few think about: How energized you feel has almost nothing to do with how much energy you have stored in your body. Even an extremely lean person has weeks’ worth of stored body fat. Someone with obesity has many times more, but doesn’t necessarily feel more energetic. Meanwhile, coffee has virtually zero calories and can make you feel supercharged. Why? Because how energized you feel is largely controlled by your brain, not how much fuel you have stored. It’s literally mind over matter. So what gives you energy? 👉 sleep 👉 exercise 👉 purpose 👉 (and coffee)

You are persona non grata if you talk about it. .@nicknorwitz
Higher LDL correlated with better cardiovascular outcomes? In this case, yes. But the bigger story is why this is hidden in the paper despite other lipid markers prominently displayed. People are afraid to talk about it. It's off limits. Why?

Out now: Keto for ADHD and Anxiety with my friend Natasha Smikles. Even though she's a psychiatric nurse, she missed the signs in herself. One podcast episode about metabolism and mental health was the green light she needed to make a change. Now she's creating a ripple effect to help others. pod.link/1747219177 @NatashaSmikles #ketoforADHD #ADHD #metabolicpsychiatry #ketobiography

This is fantastic! So many people will be helped! Congratulations .@ChrisPalmerMD Would love to hear Dr. Palmer on .@realDaveFeldman podcast
Why do some people get better while others keep struggling, even with the best care? That question is why I founded MH². The brain is part of the body, and metabolic factors like sleep, nutrition, and hormones can shape mental illness. Learn more: mh2.health

😔 If .@GeorgiaEdeMD and @ChrisPalmerMD had a defeatist attitude I probably wouldn’t be here now.

What I’m saying is the white coat influencers who promote diet only treatments need to get out more and enjoy life. Observe how no normal patient cares about diet. People want to live and eat what they want. I will prescribe meds to allow them to be happy and lower their risk better than any orthorexic advice from an X influencer.

A Keto diet can save a life. That it is often not offered because of a weak lab marker LDL is so sad. A Keto diet is not easy it’s very easy to just keep trying pills especially when Doctors run away from Keto. .@ChrisPalmerMD is a hero 👏🔥
"[...] when the ketogenic diet can stop that kind of suffering, and help people lose weight, and help them improve so many other biomarkers, I really honestly just don't give a shit about LDL cholesterol - I just don't!" - @ChrisPalmerMD youtu.be/9mLPJBv3lNk?si=QhDn… Integrity Courage

2 years ago today, we found @ChrisPalmerMD 3 days later, I felt the weight of the entire world lift from my body and brain. I never had chronic anxiety or any of the other diagnosis I was chasing. I had metabolic dysfunction at the root of everything that was ailing me. Watching my daughter find relief from treatment resistant mental illness and come back to life so quickly lit a fire under me like no other. I’ve never believed in any cause more than this right here. We all deserve hope for better outcomes instead of accepting that we are broken. We have been looking at the brain all wrong. We have been fuelling disease instead of creating the right conditions for health. Especially in the brain. Across the lifespan, mental health issues are metabolic issues. The brain was never supposed to be disconnected from the rest of the body. What we eat and the environment we create have a direct and cumulative impact on the function of the brain. What we know about nutrition is heavily influenced by the same industries that want us consuming their products to increase their profits without any regard for our health. Public health policy reflects the same industry influences. We are up against powerful odds, but we are determined to bring this to the masses. The field of metabolic psychiatry is growing by the day and it is going to change the way we approach mental healthcare, but it is going to take all hands on deck to bring it to the world.
