If you're mesmerized by the steamy #Taal eruption plume and wondering why it's creating so much #VolcanicLightning, you’re not alone. Here’s a micro-crash course on the physics of volcanic thunderstorms for non-specialists. Thanks to @joshibob_ for the incredible footage! (1/14)

91/ Incredible image of the team of engineers working to close off the gap in the berm where the road was, even as the lava flow closed in on them. Given how effective the berm proved in diverting the lava, this is incredible work.

Iceland finally cracked open to unleash torrents of lava. While tourists have flocked to to see past eruptions, officials are warning this new eruption is not “tourist-friendly” and seems to be significantly larger than the Fagradalsfjall in 2021 Here’s what to know🧵 – at West Springfield, VA

How long does it take rhyolite magma to make its way to the surface before eruption? Not long. Our new paper, led by Hannah Elms, shows that regardless of eruption size, magma ascent from 4-7 km depth occurs in less than a few hours. @SupervolcanoNZ link.springer.com/article/10…

Nice video of a pumice raft on Lake Taupo. And no need yo panic, there was no eruption. Check out Brad's simple explanation below.
Must have been raining some where around the lake or in the rivers that drain in to it. Heavy rain always brings in more pumice to float around in the lake. All the river banks and lake cliffs are packed with pumice ready to fall into the streams or lake.
