Your reminder that the Cold War ended over 30 years ago with George H Bush guaranteeing universal peace, yet America continues to interfere in every election in Latin America, despite there being no existential threat to the US.

Hugely consequential election results in Brazil and Serbia last night. With the mid-terms also looking disastrous for Trump the global Fascist wave might be ebbing. And with youth uprisings exploding across Europe room is opening for a left response to 2027's accelerating crises.

Very annoyed at the people discouraging donating directly to individuals and families. Organizations aren’t being able to operate properly or provide for everyone. And maybe an organization will be able to feed 100,000 people so yes, DO donate to them, but ALSO to the individuals who need surgeries and medication that the org won’t cover. The org will feed them perhaps but the org won’t provide the money for rent to keep them sheltered, or the blankets to keep them warm. So many people and families fall through the cracks and that’s what their individual campaigns are for. Of course it’s an imperfect system and of course it’s not equitable and of course it’s not sustainable, and yet it’s the only option. So for God’s sake don’t discourage people from donating to individual campaigns. Yes, do emphasize other actions as well, but don’t make things more difficult for the families and those trying to keep them alive.

RCP8.5 was in fact plausible (though high) when it was conceived, when China etc was developing primarily with coal and coal was the cheapest fuel. That changed, but now we’re building data centres with emissions as big as entire countries, so I wouldn’t be so confident

I'll give you a more serious answer. Airbnb has taken a massive reputation hit from people like you who ask the guests to clean up after themselves, which they wouldn't have to do at a hotel (Airbnb's competition). That's why they are enforcing this at the platform level. Duh.

Well sure that’s one opinion about armed struggle as a tactic but it does not address my question, which is about rights.

Britain has an especially hyper-developed top-down bullying culture: that’s why our sitcoms are so full of snobs being cleverly mean to stupid people. It invites people in the middle to side with power, just for the apparently sexual thrill of behaving like a mean-spirited wanker

What you are trying to say is that apartheid & ethnic cleansing will finally bring peace. Because, you see, no one accepts a "peace" in which Israelis can seize their land whenever they want to, which is what is happening today, and where they can't vote. I doubt this will work.

The best way to support Ukrainians is to encourage any people still in Ukraine to flee the country, by any means possible. Fewer Ukrainian men and boys available as fodder for Geran drones and FAB-500's means that Zelensky will be under increasing pressure to negotiate.

Another plea. Please donate and help alleviate this disgraceful situation where a genocidal government supported by our leaders and our taxes is once again seeking to induce hunger and famine in a population where 50% of people are children
Half a million Palestinians have been cut off from World Food Programme food assistance. Hundreds of thousands of people in Gaza are living without a meal, as famine knocks on the doors of markets whose shelves stand empty. But our team decided not to stand idly by while our people go hungry. We lit the fire, prepared food, and distributed it to displaced families exhausted by war and burdened by displacement, families who no longer know how they will provide food for their children, just like children everywhere else in the world deserve to have. We will keep trying for as long as we can. We will continue lighting the fires in our cooking pots and reaching out to those in need, because hunger cannot wait, and human dignity begins with the right to food. We're right back in last decade's stupid and discredited argument that the global financial crash was caused by too many libraries in Wolverhampton. The bond markets turned on Truss because she promised huge unfunded tax cuts for the super rich, i.e, unproductive spending.
EXCLUSIVE: Andy Burnham must “take the knife” to public spending in the budget or risk a Liz Truss-style crisis that will “crater” the economy and the government’s popularity, an ally of the prime minister has warned Andy Haldane, a former chief economist at the Bank of England, said he feared the government would deliver a “mañana budget” that deferred the difficult decisions on public spending and “doesn’t speak to the urgency of now” In an interview with The Times, he said that Britain was “close to being taxed out and maxed out in terms of borrowing”. He spoke of concerns that the government was failing to grasp how “precarious” the fiscal position was He said that the government needs to cut the size of the state and reduce taxes if it were to “unleash the animal spirits and generate growth” Haldane warned Burnham that he cannot “vibe-code” his way to growth, and raised concerns about the gap between the government’s rhetoric and the reality. He said that the government was effectively deferring the “day of reckoning” He also said that the decision to increase taxes on banks could show that the government lacked the courage to cut public spending. He said the move was “penny wise, pound foolish” and sent a broader economic message that if businesses make profits “the taxman cometh” Haldane said that while Burnham had the potential to be a “great prime minister” who could serve two terms, the economy was his “blind spot”. He said that the fiscal situation facing Britain was “precarious” “The penny has not yet fully dropped, including in Downing Street,” he said. “You see that in us having the highest borrowing costs in the G7, despite not having the highest debts and deficits. “It’s the old Hemingway [Ernest Hemingway, the author] thing, isn’t it? How do you go bankrupt? First slowly, then very quickly. The biggest risk to Andy not transforming Britain, to not serving two terms, to not being seen in the history books as a great prime minister, is not political risk. “It’s not those who sit behind him. It’s probably not even those who sit opposite him in Westminster. Keir [Starmer] lost the dressing room. Andy’s biggest risk is that he loses the dealing room. And then that’s an even more painful way to go, as Liz Truss would tell you.” Andy Haldane: PM risks Truss-style crisis if he dodges tough choices thetimes.com/article/9b12c00…

I'm not sure what Miatta's "common sense" approach will look like when we all share this during the next round of wildfires and floods. Insulate homes. Invest in renewables. Keep fossil fuels in the ground.
A "common sense" approach to climate change & clean energy can fend off challenges from the Greens, energy sec Miatta Fahnbulleh told @politicshome Zack Polanski said Labour had “abandoned all credibility in the fight against climate change" by approving gas drilling at Jackdaw

The repeated warnings to prepare for war in the UK aren't based on a serious assessment. It's a comms strategy. The govt know that shifting spending to arms during a collapse in living standards is unpopular. They justify it by creating a war fever. It's as simple as that.

Per head we are way worse than China, historically we are worse than China *in aggregate*, and our energy “transition” is fake, unlike China who are actually replacing fossil generation. Adblue reduces NOx (not a direct GHG), not CO2 (the worst GHG) so you are wrong on that
