gotta say, it’s actually remarkable how almost every single tech-right person on here got oneshotted by easily disprovable conspiracy theories on behalf of a grifter reality TV candidate in a city that consistently votes for democrats by 40+ point margins

Of this year's crop of @cayimby bills, this is the one I'm most excited about:
SB 1216 would create an **outcome-based** prohousing designation. Cities that produce a lot of new housing would be partially exempted from several preemptive state laws.

Building housing around transit is good, actually
⚠️ A horrible day for California as @GavinNewsom signs SB79, which will allow developers to build as they please around “transit.”
The more Newsom says “it doesn’t supersede local control” or “this is not some land grab by the state,” the more we know it is!

What happened to Charlie Kirk is unconscionable, but it was literally a few months ago that two Democratic state legislators were gunned down by a right wing activist. Let’s not pretend this is one-sided

Saturday it was the California Democratic Party; Sunday, it was Katie Porter. Today, Barbara Lee announces she's supporting SB79.
It's not even noon on Monday and the bill is already having a banner week!
Oakland Mayor @BarbaraLee_CA comes out in support of SB 79!
“SB 79 provides essential statewide standards and tools to ensure that all communities do their part in addressing California's housing shortage, while advancing our shared climate and equity goals.”

After yesterday’s disappointing vote against SB 79, today some good news from the LA City Council: a near-unanimous vote in favor of single-stair reform! 🪜🏗️

LA City Attorney's assumptions on why LA should oppose SB 79 are false:
Yes, development increases infrastructure costs.
But she forgot to mention that existing development fees (standard ones, not affordable linkage fees) pay for most of this!

“Abundance” polls poorly, yet 74% of voters in a swing state approved of Josh Shapiro cutting through red tape to rebuild a highway bridge in 12 days using union labor instead of taking months.
If the standard process is such a political winner, why did it poll so well?

The new LAX Transit Station still makes the trip to LAX nearly two hours from Pasadena. We need improved speeds and train signal priority through downtown to South Gate on the A Line to speed it up or else we are going to have low adoption from folks over here.

Alec, leaving people to die on the streets from severe addiction isn’t progressive or humane. And no one is spending time in jail in our County solely for a trespassing charge. If you listen to what I’m actually saying, you’d know that our goal is to petition to enroll an individual in a drug or mental health court WHEN they repeatedly refuse low-barrier, private interim housing options. The entire goal is to use the justice system to get people into treatment or housing when available. You’re wildly exaggerating the proposal while ignoring other jurisdictions that are literally banning camping without offering an alternative.
Replying to @equalityAlec
Let's take a look at his quote in the New York Times today, in which his "pragmatic" way of "achieving" supposedly "progressive goals" is putting metal chains on unhoused people and caging them instead of addressing affordable housing.

For years, this park has been unsafe for both the people living here and the surrounding community.
We’re taking action: decommissioning the encampment, building shelter for our unhoused neighbors, and restoring Columbus Park to a safe, welcoming space for families.
Because no one should have to live in a park — and no neighborhood should be asked to give up public space indefinitely.

It’s just common sense — if we want government to work better, we shouldn’t be rewarding failure. If we want people to come indoors, we need to require it.

San Jose Mayor @MattMahanSJ says if homeless people repeatedly refuse to accept shelter, they should be criminally charged.
He says a judge could offer them treatment, if needed.
Mahan also wants top city officials to only to receive raises IF they make progress on issues like homelessness.
