Re: Nuhu Ribadu Alleges That Buhari Formed Bandits A viral write-up alleging that Nuhu Ribadu alleged that Buhari and El-Rufai brought in Fulani fighters from Mali, Senegal, Libya, Niger, and Chad. These lies have been in circulation for a few years, but it suddenly came up again most likely as part of the battle against Nasir El-Rufai, one of the staunch leaders of the opposition coalition. Ordinarily, such lies should not be given attention at all. However, a country in which a pastor claimed that he used his spiritual power to instantly bring back the breast of a woman who went through mastectomy to remove her breast due to cancer, and his congregation believed him, is a pointer to how gullible many Nigerians are. It is apparent too that the writer aimed at reinforcing the sentiments of regional, religious, and ethnic politics. When Goodluck Jonathan was president, the DG DSS, DG NIA, IGP, Chief of Army Staff, Chief of Defence Staff, CG Immigration, etc. were all from the South-South and Southeast. How would Buhari, who was only a presidential candidate, be able to import 2,000 foreign fighters, train them in the Nigerian Defence Academy, and deploy them in Ekiti, Benue, Katsina, Zamfara, and Borno states with ease? The writer even claimed that the Nigerian Air Force provided the fighters with helicopters, in addition to pickup trucks and other logistics. The Commandant of NDA, where the said fighters were alleged to have been trained, was a southerner from the Niger Delta. The writer made attempts to drag in the name of the Sultan and northern elders, to the extent that they all addressed the foreign fighters. In all this, where was the Commander-in-Chief? If this really happened, then for sure it is an indictment on former President Goodluck Jonathan. It must be stated clearly that this statement attributed to Nuhu Ribadu is a blatant lie. Buhari defeated Jonathan in a free and fair election period. He did it in the merger of political parties that included Tinubu, Amaechi, Okorocha, and Ribadu himself.
