#OnThisDay 161 years ago the North London Railway opened its grand terminus at Broad Street and the line between there and Dalston Junction (including that station, and Shoreditch). Looking very run-down here in 1981, 5 years before closure: geoff7918 buff.ly/rCu6sBh

On 22 June 1963, ex-GWR 2-6-0 No 7337 leaves Dulverton with a train from Barnstaple to Taunton. In the bay platform is an Autotrain which will form an Exe Valley service, headed by 0-4-2T No 1421.

When a storm wrecked @svrofficialsite in June 2007 trains could only run from Bewdley to Kidderminster. Wandering around Bewdley yard, I found in a shed the chassis of a loco I’d forgotten we had. 20 years on, 4150 is restored, on a pit 50 yards across the tracks from that shed.

Jubilee No 46595 Minotaur heads a Glasgow St Enoch to Carlisle train on 3 May 1958. The faint scribbled location on the print looks like Kilmuir, but I can find no such place on or near this line. It might be Kilmaurs a station still open near Kilmarmock. Any thoughts welcome.

D821 Greyhound has a unique distinction as the first BR main line diesel loco sold for preservation. D821 broke the ice and made the preservation of examples of so many other classes possible. Looking absolutely superb, D821 arrives at Bridgnorth this morning. @svrofficialsite

Rather intrigued by this, A1 No 60154 Bon Accord near Skipton on 8 June 1965, with a Carlisle to Stourton semi fitted freight. I assume this can only have come via the Settle & Carlisle line. I'm sure they exist but I cannot recall any photos of ex LNER locos working on that line

Having had a great run with No 1450 during @svrofficialsite gala, I remembered I had recently scanned a photo of one of her surviving sisters, No 1420, seen here at Titley Junction on a goods to Prestigne and Kington in August 1964 the month before services on these lines ended.

I’m so buzzing, I’ve just been guarding the only steam hauled commuter train in Europe and probably the world. The timetabled connection, 18.50 ex Kidderminster, was part of the gala workings today and was double headed by two panniers, 7714 and 9681. @svrofficialsite

In April 1968, the evening service from Fort William to King’s Cross in the Monessie Gorge, has blue livered Class 29 No D6129 piloting green liveried classmate D6124. Within three years these North British built diesels would have been withdrawn. crecy.co.uk/product/railways…

At Farringdon in April 1973 unrecognisable from today, apart from the roof, a BR peak hours only service from Moorgate to Hitchin, comprised of blue steam heated suburban coaches, is hauled by Brush Type 2, D5595 which became 31 175 and lasted until 1988. crecy.co.uk/product/railways…

This must be the best railway themed pub sign, I’ve ever seen, take a bow The Railway Arms in Alton, it’s a very good rendition of an M7 tank which were régular performers on the non electrified part of the line between Alton and Winchester.

On 28 January 1967, two Jinties, Nos 47289 and 47629 take a coal train out of the yard at Williamthorpe Colliery near Chesterfield. Can anyone suggest why some of the wagons are sheeted, something I don't think I've seen before on a rake of coal wagons. What had to be kept dry?

While D9551, seen her running round her carriages after a short working to Highley, was certainly built at Swindon, I’m not so sure about its shed plate, I don’t think 84L ever featured in those Ian Allan abcs.

Torquay station just over 65 years ago on 5 August 1961, Warship D838 is leaving with a Down service while station pilot D6332 awaits its next duty on the centre road. One of the many thousands of images in the Crecy Archive once again easily accessible to Crecy authors.

In agreement with our friends at Online Transport Archive, onlinetransportarchive.org the Crecy/IA Archive has been moved to their premises in Shrewsbury. Stored in about 50+ cabinets, it does require some much needed TLC which it will get, after years moving from place to place.

#OnThisDay 132 years ago the North British Railway opened Fort William. Wonderful David Pearson image showing the original station with a BRCW Type 2 (Class 27), sadly the station was replaced by something extremely bland 1/2 mile to the north in 1975 buff.ly/ODa2dyb
