I have great scorn for AI influencers who brag about "one-shotting" things. Yet I have great admiration for the creators who work hard to build amazing things with AI. I think it's a real shame that those who hate AI lump both types of people into the same bucket.

The future of #ArtificialIntelligence is not pre-determined. As a technology developed by human beings, its future depends on the choices we make. We therefore have the responsibility to guide, change and, when necessary, reject its applications. A reliable system that serves the human person is of greater value than one that is exceptionally powerful but whose consequences cannot be adequately foreseen or controlled.

I would like Godot to be a better engine, I think more engines in the market is a good thing. We want competition The unseriousness of the Godot maintainers and community is why we'll never have Godot be a real competitor to better built engines

software engineering is so back. > people are reading books again. > every line of code is being read carefully. > fundamentals are cool again. > architecture and system design are back in focus. > nobody is fighting over frameworks anymore. > understanding why something works matters again. > code reviews matter more than lines of code shipped. > debugging is becoming a superpower again. > technical judgment matters more than typing speed. > engineering is about thinking again, not just coding.

Maybe the most romantic thing someone can give you isn't butterflies, it's certainty. Knowing a difficult conversation won't make them leave, their affection won't vanish with a bad mood, knowing you don't have to perform to be loved.

the fact that you exist as an entirely unrepeatable perspective on reality should fill you with an enormous sense of possibility. nobody can create from the exact place you create from. nobody can see through your eyes. take that seriously. make something of it.

We already have UBI. You just have to be 62 or older and you receive it whether you need it or not. We already have socialized healthcare. You just have to be 65 or over. Whether you need it or not. You can have your property tax subsidized by others. If you’re 65 or over. Whether you need it or not. We’ve been doing socialism it’s just based on the stupidest possible metric.

What I hate about the term "NIMBY" is it's not in your backyard. It was never in your backyard. It's in somebody else's backyard. Nobody is building anything in your backyard. That doesn't happen.

Idk if it’s just the algorithm, the full moon, or all hell is actually about to break loose and nobody is ready for what’s next. September 10th or like Night before Kobe helicopter crash vibes, right before Covid. Something feels off. But then again, Nothing ever happens.

You feel it’s motivating to know you’re already at an insurmountable deficit from Day 1? I try my best but it’s very discouraging knowing I will never, ever catch up to someone who’s dad set a few hundred grand aside for them when I was a baby

I think AI risk is going to manifest in the digital/tech space well before the bio space. This is actually good, because the consequences will be loud. But it is also bad, because we really need the Internet and personal LLMs. There are solutions but most of them are not going to be quick, other than aggressively shutting down AI training and rolling back inference hardware to the point where you can only run smaller models. If we keep doing bigger and bigger models and more and more capable/high FLOPS inference, it WILL break the Internet
AI models are now able to hack processors directly. Good luck to patch this. Everythiny is compromised, every system can be hacked by AI.

there is absolutely zero "job security" in a standard paycheck. you are quite literally one bad quarter, one new AI tool, or one grumpy executive away from having your entire livelihood completely erased.

Yeah it's over. The cyber apocalypse is upon us. Even if this particular vuln gets patched every single nihilistic terrorist, state actor, criminal, etc. is going to be pointing ever more powerful models at virtually everything on the internet. The golden age of big business and government is upon us, brought to you by our good friends over at e/acc
Quest Diagnostics has been hacked. Patient data was exposed. They serve roughly half of U.S. hospitals and physicians. Investigation ongoing.

We need to take seriously the possibility that the Internet might shut down for a period of months or more. I'd put it at 15%.

Since covid things in the US have been rapidly changing in a way unique in my lifetime. Drones, self-driving cars, AI, spaceships. It feels like we went from living in the 90s but with cellphones to genuinely living in the cyberpunk future.

people making fun of people worried about AI risk (as fearmongerers, grifters, profiteers, luddites.,) have no idea how much we would LOVE to read a tweet or essay that would cause us to confidently realize that humanity's got this and there's nothing to worry about

I suspect at this point it doesn't matter what the US govt says publicly about needing to accelerate AI. Within a few months at most, they will have no choice but to mandate a pause. The incidents will just keep getting worse until they do
