Please retweet, the stark reality of the council pound system in the UK 💔💔💔 Alice's owner passed away and she was due to be PTS in a council pound on 21 Oct 2026, thankfully a small rescue @8BelowHuskyResc stepped in and she is now safe. 🐾 A LITTLE ABOUT THE UK STRAY SYSTEM 🐾 For those who aren’t familiar with how the UK stray system works, we’d like to explain something that many people are shocked to discover. When a dog enters the stray system, whether found wandering, abandoned or, as in Alice’s case, following the death of an owner, they can face an incredibly uncertain future. Under UK legislation, stray dogs must generally be held for a minimum of seven days to allow an owner the opportunity to reclaim them. After those seven days, if a dog remains unclaimed, they can legally be rehomed, transferred to rescue or euthanised. And yes, sadly, perfectly healthy, loving dogs can lose their lives simply because there is nowhere for them to go. 💔 Not every council pound operates in the same way, and many work tirelessly alongside rescues to find safe placements. However, the reality is that kennel spaces are limited, rescues are overwhelmed and dogs continue to find themselves at risk. The majority of dogs who come into the care of 8 Below Husky Rescue arrive through the UK stray system. Behind every kennel door is a dog with a story. A dog who deserves compassion, kindness and a chance. And sometimes, the difference between life and death is simply a rescue saying YES. ♥️ Everyone, please give a warm welcome to this beautiful lady, Alice. At 11 years old, Alice should be spending her golden years surrounded by love, comfort and security. Sadly, life has dealt this beautiful girl a heartbreaking hand. Alice’s owner sadly passed away, and this lovely girl ended up in the stray system, with a euthanasia date booked for Wednesday 21st October. Thankfully, a pound puller we help often reached out to us, desperately seeking help to save Alice. We are delighted to share that Alice is now safe from euthanasia and will be transported into our care very soon. Alice is described as an incredibly sweet, loving girl with a kind and gentle nature. She is sociable with other dogs and sounds like an absolute sweetheart. However, at 11 years old, Alice has been through an unimaginable amount of upheaval. She has lost her owner, her home and everything familiar to her. She will need a calm, understanding home where she can decompress, grieve and begin to feel safe again. A home where she can enjoy the peace, comfort and love that every dog deserve We don’t know how long Alice spent with her previous owner or what her life looked like before this heartbreaking turn of events. But what we do know is that she was someone’s girl. Someone’s companion. Someone’s family. ❤️ And whilst we can never replace the person she has lost, we can promise her that she will be loved, cared for and given every opportunity to find happiness again. Welcome to the 8 Below family, Alice. ❤️ Your world may have been turned upside down, sweetheart, but your story isn’t over. Your next chapter starts here. 🐾❤️ 8 Below Husky Rescue, UK - REGISTERED BRITISH CHARITY ✅✅✅ On facebook facebook.com/8BelowHuskyResc… On Twitter/X @8BelowHuskyResc Website if you would like to donate, foster or adopt 8belowhuskyrescue.org/ #dogs #adoptdontshop #Huskies #England #Scotland #Wales #NorthernIreland @ConservativeAWF @AlistairCarns @clarebalding @AlisonHammond @GBNEWS @PatrickChristys @NickDixonITV @GMB @thismorning @BBCNews @BBCPanorama @RobbieRinder @UKLabour @APDAWG1 @PeterEgan6 @RSPCA_PATeam @DogsTrust @gsrescueelite @LurcherSOS @daisys_voice @scanme_tukslaw @Tukslaw_scanme @KatieAmess @AndrewRosindell @Jan_Leeming @liamgallagher @rickygervais @JaneFallon @brianblessed @JeremyClarkson @ClarksonsFarm1 @itvnews Below, after her owner passed away, Alice was due to be PTS in a council pound, today 21 Oct 2026. Urgent please retweet to help find a rescue shelter space for VINCE, due to be killed in a British council pound 21 Oct 2026‼️‼️‼️‼️‼️ The council will not allow the public to adopt #UK URGENT - PTS WEDS 21 OCT💔💔💔💔💔💔💔 RESCUE SPACE NEEDED **NOT AVAILABLE FOR PRIVATE REHOMING** *Dogs are not cat or child tested so foster homes must have no cats or children under 16* PLEASE PM ME Christina Marie Bracken Knighton IF YOU CAN HELP as I may NOT see comments PLEASE PLEDGE TO HELP RESCUES BE ABLE TO AFFORD TO SAVE THEM. Pledges will be collected for rescue costs, if saved and will be used towards transport, vet fees, kennelling etc. Pledges so far: £151 ( 15 Oct 2026) Please do NOT pay to any other Paypal account and only AFTER the post is marked SAFE direct to: [email protected] paypal.me/ChristinaMBracken Info from dog pound: Vince • Male, Staffie x • 5ish years old • People Friendly • No reactivity seen to other dogs From kennels: When he was collected he had one of the worst flea infestations we have seen, he was literally crawling with them. Vince was so itchy he had made himself bleed from biting at himself. As you can see, with treatment he's now flea free and his coat is starting to look really good. He is unchipped, so no age on him but I would say 5+ but not old. Vince doesn't seem to have any dog issues from what we have seen. Vince is very vocal in kennels, to the point where he is making himself cough. We thought initially he had KC so he's been isolated for 3 weeks on treatment, no other dogs have come down with it so we think he is giving himself a sore throat from barking and it isn't KC. He needs to be taught some manners and that if he's quiet he will get a reward (he's food and treat orientated), and if he shouts he gets nothing. He was picking this up pretty quickly with me this morning, so he seems quite smart and trainable. Clean in his kennel and loves his food x In UK dog pound but transport can be arranged.
