Marine heatwaves (MHWs) don’t just harm ecosystems—they also alter the ocean’s carbon cycle! Our new analysis of 30 global datasets shows ocean CO₂ uptake drops by 8% during MHWs, with regional anomalies reaching up to 30%. doi.org/10.1029/2024GL110379

Continuing to stand behind the fallacy that carbon offsetting approaches will get us out of the climate crisis is now untenable James Dyke, Jamie Shutler @jamieshutler Peter Cox @coxypm We have officially advised our university to ditch carbon offsets – and focus on cutting emissions braveneweurope.com/james-dyk… #ClimateEmergency #NetZero #ClimateCrisis #carbonoffsetting

Just like with solar, battery predictions are laughably low.
The world added a RECORD 45 GW of battery storage in 2023, MORE THAN DOUBLE that in 2022. And the @IEA forecasts capacity could increase 10x from 85 GW in 2023 to 853 GW by 2030. 📈 ember-energy.org/latest-insi…

FFS why frame #climate action in terms of not “telling people how to live”? Rules were necessary to protect us from Covid & are necessary to protect us from much greater risk of climate crisis - with added bonus that they can improve quality of life too 🤷‍♀️ independent.co.uk/climate-ch…

I keep hearing that heat pumps are a niche technology and will never take off. Look at the market share of heat pumps in different European countries - in 8 countries most new heating systems installed are now heat pumps.

Very pleased to be working with the Climate Change Committee @theCCCuk as an Expert Advisor I'm advising the CCC's Adaptation Committee on the preparation of the 4th UK Climate Change Risk Assessment
The Adaptation Committee has three new members. They will cover infrastructure, farming and health. They will support our work on assessing progress and advising the Government on the risks of climate change. theccc.org.uk/2024/11/07/new…

Dear @elonmusk can you please let @realDonaldTrump know that climate change is very real and very costly, and that we need to keep fossil fuels in the ground?

Climate change is one of the defining challenges of the 21st century. While individual actions can reduce impacts, gov't policy will play a big role to make clean energy cheap and widespread. The most important climate action you can take today is to vote.

How do heatwaves differ in their mechanisms, and how do their impacts on ecosystems vary? @yinglin_tian addresses this in a new paper in @CommsEarth. Happy to have been part of this work alongside @akleidon @ZscheischlerJak @zhou_sha @xiangzLuo and others. nature.com/articles/s43247-0…

I was still a baby when @DrJamesEHansen gave his testimony on global warming to Congress. 84% of the years in my life were warmer than any in observed history! 🤯 The climate I was born in no longer exists.
