Xibalba 64 is finally here! I'm very happy with how the game turned out! It looks amazing with the M64 on the living room TV, but of course is fully compatible with the original N64.

That seems related to your recent post about sandboxing!? What changed your mind?

Constantly reminded of this post. This week the Adobe clones and @TheGingerBill dunking on them (for all the wrong reasons) and in contrast @wvo's Goose, @dhh's Omarchy and @awesomekling's Ladybird. Turns out shit givers are as rare a breed as 10x devs used to be.
The only real moat is giving a shit.

Not sure if the schematics are entirely correct. There are a few more photos in the N64brew discord; search for "gamester". Let me know if you need anything else!

Goose: my latest programming language. Safer, faster and less memory than Rust/C++ for algorithms where tightly packed, flat data structures matter. It can represent more kinds of data structures as flat, pointer-free bytes than any language I know. github.com/aardappel/goose 1/

In my last blog post I stated that "Programming your [N64] game on bare metal is pretty much out of the question." - in this video @rfleury explains that I just lacked the ambition. Great intro to the N64! youtube.com/watch?v=PuRHu6AN…

It's pretty cool... but I still think they could have carried the depth values into screen space.

I finally took @phoboslab's Xibalba 64 for a spin and I'm loving it. The texture filter toggle effectively illustrates just how huge an impact this feature has on the visuals, and how beneficial selective application could have been in many games.

Nope. Connecting a trigger to a func_door with CRUSHER set was a way more vivid example to get me into programming.

Starting at 1:05:36 @dhh is talking about @modretro, the M64 and the great new being published for old consoles. For a moment I thought he would name drop Xibalba 64 too, but no, it's just Tetris for the Chromatic... which is a great game to be fair!
Here's my conversation with @DHH. He is back for round 2! It was an epic fun 5 hour conversation about the future of programming, AI, Linux, and human civilization. It's here on X in full and is up everywhere else (see comment). Neat! For a second I thought it's using something akin to github.com/phoboslab/ttt Thinking about it, this model of texture generation might a good fit for AI... I need to try that!

Progress on Quake for Commodore 64: tidied up the editor a bit in preparation for making the rest of the levels, and decided to use the Zombie after all. Here's a little demo of the editor in action.

Yep. I wanted to port xtype-plus.com/ which itself was just a souped-up version of this very old web game phoboslab.org/xtype/, clearly inspired by Warning Forever.

Here's an early game trailer of Cook the Dungeon (🔊Sound on), a first-person roguelike deckbuilder where you defeat monsters, harvest their parts, and cook meals for the battles ahead. If the game interests you, please wishlist the game on Steam! It helps the game to get discovered.

Xibalba 64 has been a real treat. Satisfying weapons, awesome atmosphere, and some excellent sound design come together to create a must-play boomer shooter for the N64. Hats off to @modretro and @phoboslab on this top-notch release.

Ha, you could read that sentence as imperative "leading", right? :D Not what I intended, though. Will fix, thanks!
